Hair Scissor Cramping

If you’re a hairdresser who specifically works with cutting everyday in a basic routine, you know exactly how it feels to get sore hands. Especially women or men who have worked in this industry for years and years. It is absolutely no fun when you’re cutting away at someone’s hair and all of a sudden you loose all feeling in your hands because they become paralyzed by cramps. It may even be so painful that you have to stop and massage your hand for a minute or two. Taking breaks from your hair scissors usually isn’t a great sign and it may begin to annoy a client who is there for a quick trim.

Fortunately, there are a few ways to help you cut down and maybe even stop the cramping. Some people think the only way to cure the arthritis pain is to either go on a specific medicine or to go to physical therapy for special treatment. The thing is, you really can do those couple of methods. The only thing is, they’re going to cost you a fortune in the amount of time you spend trying to cure yourself. And what if they don’t even work? Then you’re out hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars! Here’s a couple things to try before you spend your life away on medical bills.

First of all, try a new pair of hair shears. Maybe your shears are too old and you’ve worn the comfortability out of them. The only way to know is to ask a few other friends who are hairstylists if you can borrow a pair of their shears for a day. Try cutting a client’s hair with their shears and see if they are anymore comfortable for you. If you notice a big difference, you may need to start looking for a new pair of shears to get your hands on (no pun intended).

On the other hand, maybe you don’t notice a difference at all and maybe you still feel pain in your wrist or fingers.This is a sign of something completely different than the fact that you need new shears. The problem is that you need to give your tired hands a break. Your first move could be to stop overbooking your schedule. Start by going through your planner and reducing each work day by one haircut appointment. This will at least give you a couple hours in the day here and there to play with the rest of the appointments and adjust them so you can have some comfortability.

Next, if this doesn’t cut down on the soreness, try to cut out another appointment and also begin doing some daily exercises. There are so many easy remedies that you can do at home. Instead, most women spend hundreds of dollars to see a doctor who says “you have arthritis. Twirl your wrists in circles for thirty seconds and you’ll be good.” Don’t do that, just take these few exercises and do them on your own time at night after each work day is done. Twirl the wrists, extend them toward the sky and toward the ground a few times. Don’t do any exercise with weights when you do this because it will strain the muscles that you are trying to build up. Go easy on your wrists for the next few weeks as well. This will help reduce the stress put on the wrists and cut down on some soreness.

Each of these steps are so easy and could save you so much money if you ever get pain in the wrists. Try these methods before you go to a doctor or specialist and give them hundreds of your hard-earned dollars. Give it some time too; don’t try these methods for two days and give up to go to a physical therapist.
