August 18, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

For so long buns have been notorious for being the hairstyle of the boring old lady, but times are changing and younger women are discovering creative ways to wear a bun. Girls are using professional hair straighteners to ensure their locks are perfectly smooth and sleek then creating small buns that they pin up on the side of their head. Or they are taking those super straight strands and making a large playful bun they can place a flower in and enjoy being flirty while wearing. This is just one of the great hairstyles you can create with super sleek straight hair after you have used a hair iron to prep the locks for the hairstyle.

Temperature Settings On Hair Straighteners

August 17, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

When you are styling your hair with a flat iron it is absolutely essential to use the lowest temperature necessary in order to get the hair smooth, as you do not want to expose your locks to temps beyond what is needed. Many professional hair straighteners come with a variable temperature setting, which allows the user to use the temp which is the best for their hair type and condition. Those with very thick course hair will need to use a higher temperature in order to heat up the strands and effectively straighten those curls out of the tresses.

Avoiding Split Ends

August 14, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Split ends are generally caused by over drying of the hair and this is easily done with cheap drugstore hair dryers. These dryers are blowing very hot dry air onto the hair and this causes the hair to dry and lose its own natural oils, which is needed keep hair healthy and free of split ends. Once the oil is stripped and removed the hair no longer has the protection this provides and it will begin to split into two and three strands on the end of each hair. Unfortunately the only way to cure this is to remove the damaged hair by trimming it off. Once that is done you should always use a professional hair dryer to ensure that the hair is not exposed to hot dry air again to dry it out.

Taming Your Unruly Curly Hair With A Curling Iron

August 13, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Sometimes women with naturally curly hair have unruly hard to manage curls. These unmanageable locks can be even harder to manage than those of someone with straight hair since curls can be so much harder to work with. For those bad hair days with naturally curly hair you need to reach for a large barrel curling iron to tame those tresses. This may not be a natural reaction since you are wanting to tame those curls and get some kink out so it may seem a little odd to use a curling iron to put more curl in.

By using a curling iron on your unruly hair you are actually just using the heat and the large barrel to reshape your hair into its own natural state. The strands, which are either over-curling or straightening out are curled to one uniform size with the large barrel on the curling iron. It is also very important that the curling iron you are using is hot enough to be effective on your hair. If not enough heat is used then the curling will not effectively tame those unruly curls and get you looking good again.

Updos For Formal Occasions

August 12, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

The most popular hair style choice of women for weddings and proms it the updo, which is lots of curls piled on top of the head. The term updo is a kind of generic term that describes a hairdo in which all the hair is piled on top the head. Some have the person wrapping ponytails on top and twining them to create the updo. While others have the wearer creating lots of luxurious curls with hair curling irons and then piling them on top of the head with some strands dangling off the head. These are gorgeous hairdos, which are perfect for an elegant situation.

If you were one of those girls who were born with naturally curly hair, which tends to be a little frizzy on occasion you can tame that hair and keep those gorgeous curls. Of course hair straightening irons are great if you want to remove the curls, but what if you want to embrace that curl but need to get that annoying frizz out? Surprisingly you can use an ionic curling iron to tame those curls. By using a 1 to 1 and a half inch curling iron for just a few seconds on those unruly strands you can keep your curls but tame that frizz for gorgeous sexy curls.

Aging Hair

July 6, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Not like we don’t have to worry enough already about our aging skin, we now have anti-aging shampoos and conditioners? Seems lately I find myself writing a lot about aging and your skin and hair, but these are the two most worrisome factors when aging. I asked women what they wanted to know about most and this is what they said,”Tell me how to get my hair and skin back!”

Well, heaven knows I would love to, believe me. I am not taking to kindly to the thought of turning…well, the age that I will be turning soon! And yes, if I had an abundance of money you can bet your last dollar I would spend some, lots, okay, a substantial amount on some “younger” looking methods, ie: face lift? maybe a little nip & tuck, just pull everything up. Don’t get me wrong, I am most of the time happy with my appearance but my mother was right, time goes by way too fast.

With all the styling we do, hair straightening, chemical treatments, and such just to look beautiful all day it’s no wonder we have time to eat and sleep. Did you know that after 30 most women’s hair will start to thin out? I almost cried when I heard this, I mean I only have a few strands left, am I going to be nearing the age of 80 taking the local bus down to my hairstylist only to find out she doesn’t have my color in hair extensions? Trust me this is a scary thought for our fine & thin haired people out there.

Well, as already discussed in the last blog post, vitamins and all the other suggestions made for hair and skin are essential to the health of our hair. But, did you know that you can now purchase Age Defying shampoo and Younger Looking conditioner? This is a tremendous break through!

Dr. Reed, a New York City Dermatologist says “Chemically treat your hair as infrequently as possible, and avoid anything that pulls on hair, such as tight rollers, ponytails, weaves, and braids. “Not only can they cause breakage, but they can destroy your roots permanently, rendering them unable to produce hair,”

Hair Extensions are a great way to add volume and length. clip-in hair extensions are a good way to add it when you want and avoid the above mentioned damage. Hair weaving is different than hair extensions, hair extensions are done in a much less hurtful, damaging way. (depending on the stylist and method she uses!)

Take 5,000 micrograms of biotin (a B vitamin) daily and use protein-laced styling products. As your hair thins, it gets weaker and less able to support its own weight, leading to breakage and loss. Protein fortifies the hair shaft. It can actually stick itself into hair and pull splitting sections together. Isn’t that amazing? Your split ends can be brought back together by protein!

For use in our forever aging hair I suggest using Nexxus Y Serum Younger Looking Hair shampoo and conditioner or Nature’s Gate Stayin’ Alive Anti-aging shampoo and conditioner.

Natures Gate- Stayin’ Alive Anti-Aging Shampoo Gently cleanses hair while helping protect against environmental damage, the effects of UV radiation and the stress of daily blow drying and styling.
Hair looks and feels revived and young! Retail $ 14.99, but I found it for just over $ 10.00 on line. Price is same for conditioner.

Natures Gate-Conditioner: Help hair look younger, feel softer and rejuvenated! This conditioner gives hair a new lease on life, without weighing it down. Infused with certified organic botanicals and a proprietary blend of proteins, its never too early to start an anti-aging program for your tresses.

I am going to try the Nexxus line and am quite excited about starting the Vegetal Silica/Nexxus hair plan. I hope you will join me and in three months from now I’d like to hear all comments, see photos and have a final blog on the use of the Nexxus product or the Nature’s Gate along with the Vegetal Silica/Horsetail plan.  We can see and share final results if enough of us do this together. Till next time, Good Luck,

Curling & Straightening with a Flat Iron

June 5, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

If you like to go back and forth between straight hair and wavy or curly hair you may be surprised to know that the only professional hair styling tool you need is a hair straightening iron. Most women think you have to have a curling iron and a flat iron if you want to achieve these looks, but with a professional flat iron and little practice you can achieve any of them very easily with just the flat iron.

The main difference in these looks is how you glide the hair iron through your hair. With all of the styles you start at the root of your hair and glide the ceramic hair iron slowly to the tip. Of course for straight hair you smoothly and slowly glide straight down the strands of hair. But for curly or wavy hair instead of gliding smoothly down the length of the hair you use a twist. This twisting motion will add a little bit of body to the curl, and the more you turn your wrist the more the curl will be pronounced in your hairs appearance.

Of course this sounds easy, and really it is. But as with most things you may not get it on the first try. Just keep practicing with your hair staightening iron and soon your friends will think you are spending a fortune at the salon.

French braids are beautiful, they can be worn casually for a night out with friends or be worn on your wedding day. There isn’t an event that French braids wouldn’t be good for.

Add some hair from the left side of the head to the leftmost strand. Use your left index finger to pick up a section of hair from the left side of the

Step 1: Brush or comb the hair thoroughly, removing all knots or tangles. Comb out any part, combing the hair straight back.

Step 2:

Separate a section of hair from the rest of the hair at the place where you want to begin the braid. Make the part V-shaped, with the point of the V towards the back of your head.

Step 3:

Separate the section of hair into three strands. Strands must be completely separated all the way to the ends. One way to separate the hair into three strands is to hold the section of hair in one hand and use the index and middle fingers of the other hand to separate it into three strands, as shown.

Step 4:

Cross the rightmost strand over the middle strand. If you’re French braiding your own hair, your finger placement will depend on the size of your hands, the length of your fingers, and the thickness of your hair. This article provides some suggestions, but you may find variations that are more comfortable for you, or have other desirable results.

Hold the leftmost strand with your left pinkie while moving the rightmost strand from your right hand to your left. Shift the new rightmost strand (used to be the middle strand) from your right hand to your left.

Step 5:

Add a bit of hair from the right side of the head to the rightmost strand. Using your right index finger, pick up a section of hair from the right side of the head and add it to the new rightmost strand.

Step 6:

Cross the leftmost strand over the middle strand. Grab the rightmost strand with your right pinky, then rotate your left hand so that you can grasp the leftmost strand in your right hand. Shift the new leftmost strand to your right hand.

Step 7:

Add hair from the left side of the head to the new leftmost strand. Use your left index finger to pick up a section of hair from the left side of the head and add it to the leftmost strand.

Step 8:

Cross the rightmost strand over the middle strand. Grasp the leftmost strand with the left pinkie, then rotate your right hand so that you can grasp the rightmost strand in your left hand. Shift the new rightmost strand to your left hand.

Step 9:

Cross the leftmost strand over the middle strand. Grab the rightmost strand with your right pinkie, then rotate your left hand so that you can grasp the leftmost strand in your right hand. Shift the new leftmost strand from your left to right hand.

Step 10:

Add some hair from the left side of the head to the leftmost strand. Use your left index finger to pick up a section of hair from the left side of the head and add it to the leftmost strand in your right hand.

Step 11: Continue braiding. Cross the rightmost strand over the middle, add hair to new rightmost strand, cross the leftmost strand over the middle, add hair to new leftmost strand, and repeat until there is no more hair to add.

Step 12:

Braid the rest of your hair normally as far down as you can reach. If you have longer hair, bring the braid forward over your shoulder and braid in the opposite direction.

Step 13:

Tie a covered elastic band to ends.

Till next time Good Luck
