When is it Time to Get a New Blow Dryer?

November 4, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

When you look at a list of the necessary hair tools that you will need to recreate your beautiful salon hair style at home, if you are like most people, you will already have at least one of the tools on that list. The hair dryer. The hair dryer is probably one of the most common hair tools in women’s bathrooms across the world. So, there’s a good chance that you already have one.

But should you own that particular hair dryer? This is the question that you should ask yourself if you’ve been looking at the same hair dryer every morning for years. How old is your hair dryer? I have friends who have proudly informed me that they have had the same hair dryer since they were teenagers. Well, I suppose that demonstrates that you can’t throw anything out, but does it tell you that you have a quality dryer?

Of course, you may argue that if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. But just because a machine can last for two decades does not mean that it’s a quality hair dryer. Don’t you owe it yourself and your hair to upgrade your tools a little bit? I think you do.

So why should you part with your retro hair dryer? Well for starters, technology has come along way since you bought your blow dryer ten or twenty years ago. Now, you can blow dry your hair in a fraction of the time that it takes you with your old machine. That means that not only will you be able to cut your styling time in half, but you will be exposing your hair to much less time under the heat which means that you will be protecting your hair from excessive styling heat.

But don’t worry, with today’s new dryers you won’t be damaging your hair anyway. Ceramic covered elements and hair dryers with tourmaline technology actually emit negative ions that work to dry your hair faster and to close the hair shaft which means the hair will be laying down flat on your head which makes it look smooth and healthy. Not only will your hair look smooth, it will be healthier. Tourmaline technology has been shown to actually improve the health of the hair shaft which means beautiful, bouncy hair for you.

If that’s not enough to convince you to get a new dryer – consider this. Older hair dryers can become safety hazards because they get clogged with hair and lint. In many older models of dryers, you cannot easily remove the back to get at the fine filter in order to clean it. That means that you cannot remove the build up that could potentially present a problem. Older dryers use more energy and generate more heat, and if you have a build up of lint and hair in your dryer, you are setting the stage for a fire hazard. It is not unusual to hear of fireballs coming out of the back of old and dirty blow dryers.

So, out with the old and in with the new. It’s time to upgrade your hair styling equipment and reward yourself and your hair with the latest technology that will give you the beautiful, healthy hair that you deserve.

No More Uneven Bangs with the Right Shears

Have you ever decided to give yourself a little trim in between salon visits? Perhaps you thought you could trim your daughter’s bangs for her so you could avoid a visit to the hair stylist? If you have ever thought that you could cut your own hair, or anyone else’s hair, you are probably guilty of scissor misuse. Come on. Admit it – you’ve done it.

If you’re like most people who think that they can trim their own hair, you’ve probably grabbed any old pair of scissors that you have lying around to do the task. Oh sure, you may have grabbed a “good” pair of scissors, maybe a brand new pair, or a pair that you only use for cutting fabric. Using the logic that these scissors are sharper than any other ones. After all, you wouldn’t cut your hair with the same scissors that your kids use for craft projects right?

Stop! If you feel the need to cut or trim your own hair for any reason, you must have the right tools for the job. Just like any other job, you must prepare yourself with the right tools. After all, you wouldn’t use a screwdriver to hammer in a nail would you? Just like you shouldn’t use your kitchen scissors to cut your hair. Instead, invest in a quality pair of hair cutting scissors or shears.

So what’s the big deal? Why do you need special scissors? Well for starters, a proper pair of hair shears will cut your hair cleanly and smoothly. Ordinary scissors will tear, or pull your hair. They won’t result in a clean, smooth cut. You’ll end up with damaged and jagged ends. And even worse, your hair will be uneven. Have you ever seen someone who has really short bangs, and they’re still uneven? Sure you have. That girl didn’t use the proper scissors and kept trying to correct her mistake until she ended up with awful bangs. Don’t be that girl.

A proper pair of hair shears will make your simple trimming jobs easy and smooth. You will be able to comfortably and easily make slight adjustments to your hair, take care of any split ends or trim your daughter’s bangs. Of course you should still visit the hair salon for major cuts and styles, but little jobs can be done very well with the proper pair of shears.

Look for a student set of basic shears. You don’t need anything fancy, or any special scissors for thinning your hair, or texturing your hair. Keep it simple for your first set of shears. Look for the right set for your hand. If you are left handed there are scissors that have been designed with you in mind. Try them out if you can. Hold them and get a feel for them before you buy.

Once you have the right tool for the job, the easy trims will be simple and enjoyable and you won’t ever have to worry about being the girl with the uneven super short bangs.

Fusion Hair Extensions

Fusion hair extensions is a method used to place hair extensions in hair. There are different ways of fusing the hair, each method can offer different advantages and disadvantages.

Hair extensions can be attached to your head in many different ways, including gluing, tubing, sewing, and clipping on. Different methods have different advantages. The method you choose will depend on many factors: your hair, your lifestyle, your budget, and your needs, for starters. If you are looking for a long-lasting, natural-looking hair extension, though, consider one of the fusion methods.

Fusion hair extensions can be applied in two different ways. Hot fusion and cold fusion. The application of the hot fusion has its advantages and disadvantages. Hot fusion can usually allow the hair extensions to last up to 4 months.

Cold fusion is a new method that is gentler on your hair. As this method uses no heat, it is good for fine or thin hair. The polymer offers more flexibility than hot-glue, and results in a more natural-feeling of the hair extensions. For cold fusion hair extensions, many hairdressers use SoCap extensions and a clear bond. These extensions can last up to six months.
