Is Straightening Bad For Prom?

April 7, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

There are many girls who go with fancy up-do’s at prom season. French twists, tight curly buns, fish braided side pony, you’ll see a very big variety. So many girls will pay fifty dollars or more to get their hair styled professionally. This is great because it’s a one night only kind of occurrence and is important for most girls, especially high school senior girls. On the other hand, some girls don’t care as much what their hair looks like and would rather save money so they take the conservative route by simply performing a style on their own at home.

The choice of staying safe and cheap may be a little bit smarter for prom. Using a simple hair straightener on prom night is just as fun as getting an up-do for some girls. Although some say that they should go all out for the special night, it’s not necessarily a bad thing to straighten your hair. It’s not as bad as many people make it sound and it turns out looking great. There are few benefits to doing this style, too.

Of course, I already mentioned the incredible amount of money you can save by straightening your hair at home for prom. But there are other ways to look at it, too. You can kind of customize your hairstyle if you do it yourself because it’s you that’s performing the style and you can do it however you want, first hand. You can add a few curls here and there to add a little flirt to the ‘do. You can also put your own kind of style to it: make it edgy or subtle, it’s your choice because you’re in charge. This way you can also fix it yourself if you don’t like it; you don’t have to feel bad about hurting a stylist’s feelings. Straightening your hair is also a great way to keep hair from getting so messy. Some girls experience a problem with the way their hair falls after getting it styled. They seem to want to change their style because it falls apart as the day goes on. With your straight hair, you can easily go home and straighten it again in a matter of two minutes, whereas other girls can’t go back to their hairdresser and get it fixed.

You can spend a fortune on getting your hair all done up for an event that lasts three hours, or you can save money and style it yourself. As you go to your hairdresser with the thought that straightening your hair isn’t fancy enough, remember all of the benefits of using that straightener. Any style will wind up being beautiful on prom night but straightening isn’t necessarily a bad thing to do for this event.

Do You Really Need Two Straighteners?

February 26, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Some households have all girls in them. Some households have only one girl in them. Either way, most households own a hair straightener to style hair with each day. The trendy hairstyle has been known to be popular with girls but some guys even do it if their hair is long enough. What if you are the only girl in your household and you own two or more hair straighteners? Doesn’t that seem a little ridiculous?

Many people would beg to differ that owning more than one straightener is odd. It’s easy to understand if there were two or three or even four girls in the same household. Each of those girls could have different types of hair (thick, thin, wavy, extremely curly) and each girl may need to use a different straightener. Weird as it may sound, there are households of one girl who owns three hair straighteners. I, myself, am the only daughter left in my house but I own three hair straighteners. Of course I have my favorite flat iron over the others but they all get used just as equally as the other. But is it really necessary to own more than one hair straightener?

More than one straightener in a household of one girl, in my opinion, can be bittersweet. I don’t mind owning three at once, as long as there is room to store each of the other two that aren’t in use. Some girls don’t even use the other straighteners that are in their house; they use the same straightener everyday and let the other(s) lie in the cupboard to collect dust. This is the part that doesn’t seem right in my mind. Why own so many yet only use one; you could get money out of the unused ones!

However, one reason some girls may own more than one flat iron is because one straightener may have a feature that the others don’t. For example, one of my flat irons has a rounded edged plate that makes it easier to curl hair with a straightener. Some girls like to use straighteners to curl their hair instead of an actual curling iron, so this kind of straightener is great for them. Some irons may have higher heat settings also and can therefore straighten better than others. Variety of plate sizes are also a popular reason for multiple straighteners in one household as well.

Whatever your reason may be for owning more than one straightener in your house, it’s not a crime so who cares, carry on! It’s more fun for girls to own more than one of something so they can switch up their look everyday. Even if you’re the only girl/woman in your household, you can find more than one straightener that will help you accomplish perfect looks every single day.

You Ask – How Can I Make Hair Grow?

May 11, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Personally, my hair has never grown! No, I ‘m serious, after I got gum stuck in it when I was 8 and mom had to put the ol’ bowl around my head and cut it like no other little boy I ever saw, it just never grew back. Well, I guess it did somewhat. I will see friends then not see them for a year and they will say ” Hey you always get your hair cut the same length,” uh, NO, it just doesn’t grow! I have tried all sorts of things, never did try that one, you know, the ad with the girl in black and white with really long hair. The ad promises you can grow your hair within 7 days. If I can’t grow my hair within a year then I doubt there is a magic formula that’s gonna do it in 7 days! I hope I wasn’t wrong.

Some girls, like Giselle here, have naturally wavy, thick, beautiful hair. Not only would I love to have her hair but I think I could deal with a bit of her looks too! I found a couple sites that “say” they will help grow your hair, make it thicker and so on. If anyone tries these products I would love it if you could let me know if they actually work. Here’s one grow-long-hair-fast.com and another fasterhairgrowth.com. There products are different from one another but say they will do the same thing.

The best product that actually worked for me were vitamins. Vegetal Silica, Horsetail Root. These vitamins proved to actually make a noticeable difference in the growth of my hair. Oh, plus one other thing, pregnancy!!! Wow did my hair ever grow then, like weeds.

I also recommend taking a look at our past post on Healthy Hair Care. This post is full of great advice on maintaining healthy hair, which can also help lead to better hair growth.
