For quite some time now long straight hair has been the hairstyle of choice for most women who love to follow the fashion trends. But now curly hair is making a comeback as the in style with gorgeous wavy curls coming in varying shapes to give the hair a sassy carefree look. While a hair straightening iron can be used in a pinch to get some curl into your hair, a professional curling iron is really the best hair tool for the job.

To get these hot wavy curls that every woman is eyeing this fall you will need a 1 inch curling iron or larger. This is big enough to create wavy curls and if placed randomly in the hair will create that beach look that is so in right now. Of course you do not have to have long hair to create this look, to some degree this can be accomplished in short hair as well. Curling longer hair is fairly easy but for those with shorter hair getting good looking curls into it can be a little tougher. Make sure your hair completely dry and your 1 inch curling iron hot and ready to go before you start. Starting at the crown take one to two inch wide sections and wrap them from the tip to the scalp. Hold this for about five seconds and up to ten seconds for thicker hair that tends to not curl as easily. Do this completely around your head until all the hair is curled then spray to hold the style for the day.

If you have short hair and are in need of an interesting hairdo for a special occasion, maybe you should consider pin curls. These small tight curls were extremely popular in the 1920s and 30s and make a great short sassy style for the modern woman. Plus these curls are relatively easy to create with a small-barreled ionic curling iron. The smaller the curl the tighter the curls you will have and so keep proper tension on your hair when you are wrapping it around the curling iron barrel. This is one look that is easy to create with your curling iron and can make your short hair very sexy for a great night out.

Hair straightening irons come in many sizes with the plate ranging from one to three inches. The smaller plates are perfect for those with very thin or short hair since they are better at holding smaller amounts of hair. With the one and a half inch being a good overall hair iron choice for normal hair of any length. For those with courser hair a larger plate such as a two to three inch plate will be needed to effectively straighten hair of this type. Once you have the iron size that is right for your hair type you will have much more success straightening your hair out as you would like it.

Many women just head into the drugstore and buy a generic sized curling iron and very few realize that you can get a curling iron in various sizes which will enable you to make different sized curls in your hair. For the most part a 1 inch curling iron is a great overall size for the average hairstyle and for most heads of hair. If you have very short and thin hair, or just want really small tight curls, then you may want to consider the smaller barrel sizes. For thicker hair or for looser wavier type curls you will want to consider a barrel of one and half inches or larger.

Getting the right curling iron size for your hair type is a big factor in how much success you will have in effectively styling your hair. If you have very short hair any curling iron barrel bigger than one inch will not be very effective in getting curl into your hair. The larger the barrel on the curling iron than of course the larger the curls will be. Also the shorter amount of time you use hair curling irons on your hair the less time the curl will have to take effect. This can be useful in creating waves as opposed to getting full complete curls.

How to Find a Hair Stylist

When I was about 19, I went to this hairdresser in “a small town” I hadn’t noticed the smell of alcohol on her breath till my hair was half done. When she was finally finished, I cried, and cried and cried. I was so upset that when I got home, my mom only had to look at me to know that I had been scalped by a drunken hairstylist. She was more upset than me, she dialed the salon asked for the “drunken hairstylist” and told her how awful my hair looked and that she was sending me back to get it fixed. What? sending me back? Oh, please mom, noooo. Well needless to say I always get up close and personal now when choosing a new hairstylist.

A good stylist is in fact easy to find. I mean all you have to do is go into a salon and watch them work. Look at how many different types of hair they can work on, leaving a satisfied customer in the works. Can they do short hair, long hair, thick hair, thin hair, can they color?

If you see a hairstyle you like on someone, don’t be afraid to ask them where they got their hair done. When scouting out a salon, stay long enough to see the outcome of a clients hair. Is she happy? Did she get what she asked for? Don’t forget that not all hairtypes can do the same thing, you may want a hairstyle that just wont work with your type of hair. Tell the stylist what type of hair you have and if they are good they will be able to tell you if your hair can do that or not. See if they have a portfolio, check out the styles and cuts inside, are they good? Do the clients look happy?

Chances are if they are smiling they are happy and this could be a possible hair stylist for you, if they don’t look so happy, move on to the next salon and do your detective work once again!

Till next time Good Luck,

Niki
