Men Can Straighten Their Hair Too!

April 17, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Growing up my older brother had really curly hair, which he used to spend what seemed like hours in front of the mirror trying to tame. His only hairstyle choices were extremely short so the curl would be cut out of his hair or something that involved curl. He just like many men born with curly hair would have done anything to get straight hair since to many of these guys curls are a girly thing they do not like on their own heads.

Of course many men do not think of it but they too can use a flat iron on their hair to get rid of their naturally curly hair and get those straight hairstyles they see on the men in Hollywood that the ladies love. Some guys might be reluctant to try this depending on their personality since to many this kind of grooming is just too feminine. But many of the companies that make hair irons try and actually cater to guys by creating models that they would not mind using as much. The popular pink hair irons that are all the rage with the women just would not work in a guy’s bathroom so you can get things such as a camo design from Chi flat irons that a guy would not mind using at all.

Since many men have short hair it is important that they use a flat iron that has a small plate size so that it is easier to run the hair through the iron to get the hair straight. And just like with women it is essential that men use a quality professional straightener that will not damage their hair and leave it dried out and unhealthy. After all the whole point is to look good for the ladies and you want them to still be able to run their fingers through your hair.

Choosing the Right Size Flat Iron For Your Hair Type

April 14, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

One of the things you need to decide when purchasing your flat iron is what plate size is best for your hair so that you get the best straightening performance possible with your new iron. Getting the right plate size for your hair type is important for the hair iron to optimally get the looks you are hoping for from your iron.

The best overall plate width for everyone is the one inch size. One inch plates are intended to straighten medium length hair but is a good catch all size for those looking for a versatile iron.

Of course if you have very thin hair you will want a smaller plate in order to best manage these thin locks. This smaller plate size is ideal also for very short hair since it makes getting those small amounts of hair easier to get into smaller half or three-quarter inch plates.

For those with really thick and very long hair larger plates can be used to straighten the hair. Hair of this type does not need the small minuet details from smaller plates and can be done quicker with the larger plates.

Getting the right size of plates for your hair will ensure that you have the right amount of hot plate to run down your hair but not so little that straightening your locks takes all day long.

Curling Irons Sure Have Changed!

Probably one of the first hair styling tools you ever owned was a curling iron. In fact, if you went to high school in the early nineties, a curling iron was essential in order to create those sky high bangs that were so popular. Do you remember how you choose what curling iron you should use back then? Probably not, but I would bet that you didn’t choose your curling iron based on how good it would be for your hair. In fact, it hasn’t been until recently that hair styling tools have actually benefited hair. However, there are a few things that you should keep in mind when you are looking for a curling iron, because they have come along way since you first started using them.

If you are thinking about getting a curling iron, don’t make the mistake that they are only good for curling your bangs up to great heights. Curling irons are useful for so much more than that. If you have always wanted wavy, sexy curls, then a curling iron is the perfect tool for you. Or maybe it’s tight, spiral curls you’re looking for? A curling iron is also the tool of choice for you.

Be sure when you are looking for a curling iron to choose the barrel width that’s right for the style you want to achieve. Because curling irons come in a wide variety of barrel sizes, from ¾” up to 2” barrels. If you are looking for tight curls, choose the smaller curling iron barrel size. But if loose waves are your thing, you’ll want the larger barrel. It’s important to note that if you have short hair, you should not choose large barrel sizes, they are only useful on longer hair. Shorter hair does better with smaller barrel sizes as they are easier to negotiate on short hair. If you have medium length hair and want to have some versatility when you style, you may want to consider a 1” barrel size because they are the most versatile and you can create quite a bit of style with this size.

Another consideration when you are choosing a curling iron is the material of the barrel. Look for a ceramic curling iron because ceramic is an excellent material choice. Ceramic is known for conducting heat evenly and quickly so you do not need to worry about any hot spots developing on your iron which will burn your hair. Ceramic also smoothes your hair as it styles, so your hair will not look frizzy or over treated.

Other features to look for in a curling iron include ionic technology which actually locks in natural moisture and oils to make hair look healthier than before. Silver technology is also a great feature, because the silver kills bacteria and germs that may be in your hair or on your styling tool so that your hair can stay as healthy as possible.

Curling irons have come along way since your early styling days, so take the time to research a quality hair styling tool before you make the investment.

Hair Extensions Are For Everyone

January 2, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Have you always wanted long, beautiful hair? It’s true that people usually want what they don’t have, and if you have short hair, you may often crave long luscious locks. Waiting for your hair to grow out is not a very good option. It will take years for your hair to grow out, and by the time your hair reaches the length that you want, you may have changed your mind and no longer want long hair. And more often than not, the hair will become damaged and unhealthy while you’re waiting for it to grow.

But there is an easier way. You can always opt for hair extensions as an easy alternative to create your beautiful look. Some women mistakenly think that hair extensions are only for the rich and famous or celebrities and that normal people shouldn’t or can’t have them. This is the totally wrong way to think. There is absolutely no reason that you shouldn’t have hair extensions if you want them.

Price is no longer the barrier that it used to be as hair extensions are much more affordable now than they used to be and there are many different options for all budgets. If you want to save even more money, you can have a friend put your extensions in for you instead of opting for an expensive salon. There are many different types of hair extensions that are simple enough for anyone to put in on their own.

One of the common misconceptions about hair extensions is that they look fake and everybody will know that you are wearing them. Well of course your close friends will know that you have hair extensions because overnight you will have much longer hair. But for others, no one will be any the wiser about your extensions because they are made very well now and do not look fake at all. There are a wide variety of colors to choose from, you will be able to match your hair type very closely for an excellent match. Choosing extensions made with human hair will also help to have them looking very natural and will make it easier for you to care for them as well and style them.

Hair extensions can be treated like your normal hair. You can wash them, and style them normally with your hair straightener, curling iron and hair dryer without fear of damaging your look. It is recommended that you take a bit more care in washing your hair, and use a gentle shampoo, avoiding the connections where they attach to your own hair, but other than that, you should be able to treat your hair as you normally would.

Don’t think that you have to wear your hair extremely long just because you have extensions. Many women are under the impression that they will have hair down to their rear end if tey get extensions and that’s not always true. If that’s the length that you want, than you can go right ahead, but otherwise you can cut your hair and have your stylist shape it however you would like.

Hair extensions are not just for the rich and famous anymore. With a wide variety available, anyone can have that long, gorgeous movie star look.

Getting the Best Flat Iron

October 29, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

There are several things you need to look at if you want a professional straightening iron that will not only get the job done well but will also work best for your hair type. Flat irons come in many sizes and materials plus each has different features, which they claim are the best ones to have.

For the most part professional flat iron plates are made with either ceramic of titanium and both claim to be the best for your hair. Of course both of them are perfectly fine for your hair and as long as both are solid and not coated they will be the best plate material for anyone’s hair. The size of the plate does not affect the irons straightening ability but for different hair types different plates are better. For those with lots of thick or really curly hair larger plates will get the job done quicker than smaller ones. While for those who have thin or short hair smaller plates will do a better job of straightening these pieces, which would slip out of a larger iron easier. The best irons will also have variable temperature settings so that you can customize the exact temperature setting you need to straighten your hair effectively.

Casual Looking Straight Hair With A Wave

October 13, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

One of the hottest looks this fall is smooth straight long hair with just the ends turned up to create a neat yet slightly wavy appearance to your hair. Use a 2 inch curling iron to create the body in the tips of your hair and remember to shake it out after you style it so that it does not look to made up and seems more natural. Though this is really a great look for those with very long hair it can also be pulled off with ease on short hair to create an almost casual bob appearance.

Barrel Business – Choosing the right size Curling Iron

October 9, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Do you crave the tight curls that Sarah Jessica Parker has? Or maybe you’ve always had your eye on Cindy Crawford’s waves? It seems that no matter what you have, you want something else when it comes to your hair. Fortunately there are a whole host of tools available to help you achieve the look that you crave.

When it comes to curls, you don’t have to relegate yourself to flipping through magazines longing for beautiful fullness. Now, you can have those curves that you crave even if you were born with bone straight hair. The key to luscious curls is the right curling iron.

So you’re ready to make the investment in a curling iron, you get your wallet out ready to make the purchase and then something stops you. What is it? The incredible range of curling iron barrel sizes has you completely overwhelmed and confused. How do you decide which barrel size is right for you?

Do you want tight ringlet curls? Or maybe it’s loose sexy waves? Maybe you just want to tame your own naturally wavy hair and give it shape? Or just turn under or flip out the ends of your hair? It can be extremely overwhelming to choose the curling iron that you will create the style that you want. So once you decide what look you are trying to achieve with your curling iron, you can narrow down the barrel size that you’re looking for.

Curling irons come in a wide range of sizes from as small as 3/8” to large barrels that are 2” in diameter and everywhere in between. Each barrel size has its purpose but that doesn’t mean that each of them will work for you and your hair.

If you have short hair, or are looking to create very tight spirals, or curl wisps and tendrils, you will want a smaller barreled curling iron. Something around 3/8” is a good choice for you.

If your hair is medium length or you are looking for spirals or ringlets, a slightly larger barrel is perfect for what you need. Something about 5/8” would be a good choice.

A curling iron anywhere between ¾” and 1” is a good choice for medium to long hair lengths if you are looking for something to flip out your hair, or curl ends in. This size of iron will also create beautiful curls for almost any hair type.

Curling irons that are 1-1/4” to 1- ½” are the best irons if you’re looking for loose sexy curls. These irons are perfect for long hair and will create a great deal of lift and waves. The largest barrel available is the 2” size which is the ultimate iron for extra large waves on long hair.

It may be difficult to narrow down which size of curling iron you really need. If you can’t decide on just one size, why not go for two? It is absolutely impossible to create the same style with a 3/8” size barrel as with a 2” barrel. So if you’re hoping to achieve those two very different styles, you should splurge on two separate curling irons so you aren’t disappointed with the results. After all, a well equipped hair styling tool box, means beautiful hair for you!

Ceramic Irons For Curling Short Hair

September 4, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Curling short hair can be a real pain and that is why so many women with shorter hairstyles do not take the time to but a little body and curl into their hair. Shorter strands of hair were notorious for slipping out of the older metal-based barrels. The slick barrel just could not hold onto the hair unless hairspray was used to create some grip. This made a sticky nasty mess on the iron and on the hair. Newer professional ceramic curling irons do a much better job of holding onto that hair so it can curl it properly with no hairspray needed to keep the hair on the barrel.
