Keeping Hair Fresh Makes Your Look Fresh

May 4, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

When I was younger, I could go two or three months between each haircut. It always seemed easier when I was a young girl because my hair hadn’t been exposed to heat or damaging chemicals yet. Getting a haircut in April meant my next appointment would be in June or July. However, as I grew up, I started getting into trends from my favorite TV shows and wanted to constantly look like my favorite celebrities. When I was little, fresh haircuts made me look older because of the styles I was admired by. Now that I’m older I realize haircuts should make me look younger. As I get older I don’t want to look older, I want to keep my youthful, fun look that keeps me in touch with my youthful personality.

Older women today sometimes have trouble with this concept of staying younger. There are a few common mistakes that they make, thinking these things will make them look older. For example, they tan their skin, grow their hair out, get their nails done and more just to make themselves look younger. Truth is, those things only make them look older. When they tan their skin becomes wrinkly and tight when what they want is to look dark and flawless. Maybe this is what they see but the rest of the world notices an orange shriveled up body. Growing hair out doesn’t look great on older women because of the texture of their hair. As we age, our hair gets drier and begins to loose its natural oils and the longer it gets, the more noticeable those dried ends become. Getting nails done aren’t that bad of an asset to the aging process. It just looks bad when you combine it with the above trends that don’t look good.

Going back to growing out hair, we want to avoid looking old with our hair especially. To do this, we should think of new ways to keep a fresh look and a perfect example would be a haircut! Getting regular haircuts is an essential if you want to look young and fresh. Doing this can also bring out highlights in your other features too. For example, when you get bring out those  hair shears and chop off all dead ends in your hair, you can add a little needed volume. Create some layers too if you want a little oomph in the top of your head. Body in the hair definitely cuts a few years off your look and when you build up the hair, you also build up your cheekbones. Shorter cuts are very appropriate for women over fifty and when you use your hair scissors for certain tasks it helps a lot. Another idea is to cut a section from your bangs to swoop to the side. This will cover some of the aging spots on the forehead but it will also draw attention to your eyes when the hair falls right next the eye.

To play up your look, think about ways to make yourself younger. Next time you want a new style, don’t think about dying your roots or going tanning to make yourself look younger. Instead try getting it all cut off and making it more of a polished look. Making yourself look younger definitely isn’t a hard thing to do when you think about it.

Men Can Straighten Their Hair Too!

April 17, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Growing up my older brother had really curly hair, which he used to spend what seemed like hours in front of the mirror trying to tame. His only hairstyle choices were extremely short so the curl would be cut out of his hair or something that involved curl. He just like many men born with curly hair would have done anything to get straight hair since to many of these guys curls are a girly thing they do not like on their own heads.

Of course many men do not think of it but they too can use a flat iron on their hair to get rid of their naturally curly hair and get those straight hairstyles they see on the men in Hollywood that the ladies love. Some guys might be reluctant to try this depending on their personality since to many this kind of grooming is just too feminine. But many of the companies that make hair irons try and actually cater to guys by creating models that they would not mind using as much. The popular pink hair irons that are all the rage with the women just would not work in a guy’s bathroom so you can get things such as a camo design from Chi flat irons that a guy would not mind using at all.

Since many men have short hair it is important that they use a flat iron that has a small plate size so that it is easier to run the hair through the iron to get the hair straight. And just like with women it is essential that men use a quality professional straightener that will not damage their hair and leave it dried out and unhealthy. After all the whole point is to look good for the ladies and you want them to still be able to run their fingers through your hair.

Resolve To Have Style In 2009!

So it’s a new year, and if you’re like most people, you probably have a New Years resolution or two. And if you are like most people, you may have already broken those resolutions by now, the first week of January. So why not make a resolution that you can actually keep? Make the New Years resolution that you are going to pay more attention to your style and give your hair the treatment that it deserves.

Too many people take their hair for granted. Giving it a quick brush in the morning, or throwing it up in a pony tail. But your hair can be so much more, and it should be. So why not utilize your hair to its full potential and use it to really show off your style. Your hair is actually an extension of yourself, and with a little bit of care and the right hair styling tools, you will easily be able to create whatever styles reflect your personality.

The first thing you need to do is to be sure that your hair is in optimal condition. And if you’ve been neglecting your hair for awhile, you may need a little bit of work in this area. The first step would be to visit a hair stylist for a trim and a little shaping. Tell them what you are trying to achieve and a good stylist will be able to create that for you. And if you don’t know what you want to achieve with your hair, simply let them know a little bit about your personality and your lifestyle and let them take it from there.

Once your hair has been trimmed and you’re ready to go, you will need to invest in a good hair straightener. The hair straightener is the way to go if you are new to hair styling because you don’t need a full drawer of styling implements to get started. This one hair iron should do the trick.

If your hair is curly or has a natural wave, you can use the hair iron to straighten it for a complete new look. But don’t stop there. You can also use the hair straightener to create flips and tucks with the ends of your hair, giving it a bit of style and pizzazz.

If you already have straight hair, use the hair straightener to add curls and waves to your hair giving it volume. Yes, you can curl your hair with a hair straightener!

It is important however when you are choosing a hair straightener to choose one that is going to treat your hair well. Because what’s the point trying to achieve beautiful styles when you’re just causing damage to your hair? And if you don’t pick the right hair straightener, that’s exactly what you will be doing. Look for a hair iron with tourmaline. Tourmaline works by infusing your hair with negative ions that actually seal the hair cuticle locking in natural oils and moisture so your hair looks and feels healthier and shiner than ever before.

You should also look for a ceramic plate hair straighter, or a titanium plate hair straighter because these plate types are the best for your hair providing you with the proper heat distribution, without snagging or pulling your hair.

So this year, make a New Years resolution that you will actually keep and invest some time and effort into your own personal style.
