The Best And Worst Products To Use

July 11, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Whether you’re styling or washing your hair, there’s always some kind of product that you use to get the job done. For example, you use shampoo and conditioner when you shower and hairspray when you style your hair. Although you might think it’d be hard to mess up showering or styling, some people actually use the wrong products for their situations and end up with a rat’s nest of a head. Think about it before you prep your hair for the day on which product to use. Even the specific brand of a certain product can mess up your styling process.

Now depending on the results you’re looking for, you might find one product that will do better than the others. For example, I looked for a brand of shampoo once that would make my hair smell fresh and clean, not like sweat and dirty. For this kind of result I used Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner. These are great for giving your hair that fresh and fruity smell when you need a clean start. It’s also a great way to keep colored hair looking its best. You hair will look freshly dyed for weeks if you use the specialized shampoo from Garnier. I wouldn’t depend on this brand for volume or damage repair though.

One of my favorite brands for protection from heat when I use my hair straightener is Tresemme. This brand is so focused on keeping your hair strong that you can trust their products will be the best. When I use the heat protection spray I love how lightweight it is. It’s almost as if you never sprayed anything in your hair-the only thing it leaves behind is a fresh scent. There’s no greasy look to it, it’s not heavy in your hair and it does a great job at protecting my hair.

Going back to the shower, my favorite kind of shampoo to keep my hair in good shape and repair any breakage comes from Pantene. This is definitely one of the best brands out there today because it’s so trustworthy. This company recently came out with new sets of products that help against specific things. One set that I love to use is the breakage to strength line of shampoo and conditioner. There are other products in this line but I mainly use it for my hair in the shower only because I am hooked on products from other companies when it comes to styling products.

My favorite brand of hairspray is Redken. This is a very high end brand of hair products that lots of celebrity stylists use. It’s so popular that I can barely afford a whole line of it so I stick with just the hairspray. I’ve never seen a certain spray with so much hold in it. If you’re looking to keep a style all day through, I can guarantee that Redken will not let you down. I used to poof my hair for school and from 7 AM to 4 PM  I knew I could trust this brand to keep my hair in that poof. Although the scent is very strong and not so pleasant it does the job and I would recommend it to anyone.

So wether you’re using your hair straightener, your curling iron, you’re showering or just looking for something to make your hair smell good, use these varieties of products and you will not be let down. It’s not always true that a certain brand can work perfectly for every hair need you might have. Try a good variety like these and you’ll always do great with keeping your hair looking in tip-top shape.

How Celebrities Do It

March 11, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Have you ever been to a concert or seen a performance on an awards show and noticed how absolutely perfect the performer looks? Her makeup doesn’t seem to run no matter how much she sweats, her hair seems to remain free from frizz and doesn’t get wet from all the sweat. How do they do it? Looking perfect seems so hard for normal people to pull off and if you think about it, celebrities surely couldn’t do it without the help of their stylists.

Seeing a girl on a blazing hot stage with dozens of lights on her with flawless makeup makes you wonder why you can’t keep your makeup flawless during a low-stress day at school. The truth behind the scenes is actually…behind the scenes! Stars could never look as great as they do if they didn’t have touch up’s every time they exited stage during breaks. The job of a stylist is to update the performer’s look at every possible second.

For example, Fergie could sprint off stage with straight hair just to “change her outfit,” but when she gets back she has a whole different wardrobe, a new smoky-eyed makeup, and curly hair. This all happens in a matter of about sixty seconds and many people are amazed at how this can be pulled off. A stylist has tons and tons of practice and knows just how the business works: fast-pace and frantic. No matter how hard they may work it out on stage, celebs can always count on their trusty hair straighteners to get through frizz and messed up ends for each moment of the show.

You know those things called dress rehearsals? Yep, that’s how the stylist prepares him or herself and gets ready for the big show. They time everything from curling pieces of hair to getting the ride shade of eyeshadow applied. Of course they have their little secret tools that they love/have to use but it’s all about time and the pace that everyone moves at. The flawlessness is almost impossible to achieve, mostly because no one has the same type of hair as another person. Therefore, there isn’t one trick that is going to help each and every person’s hair; it takes a variety of ways depending on the type of hair you have.

Getting the Right Temperature on Your Hair Iron For You

April 9, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

One mistake so many women make when they begin using a hair iron to straighten their hair is to turn the temperature setting on the iron to its maximum level. Many feel that the higher the heat the more effective the iron will be. To some degree this is true but that is not the only thing you need to consider when setting the heat on your variable temperature hair iron such as the Babyliss pro flat iron.

Some hair irons have an upper limit of approximately 200 degrees while others may go all the way up to the area of 400 degrees. Yes, the higher the temperature setting the better job the iron will do straightening your hair and the longer that style will stay locked into your tresses. But for those with damaged or thin hair this high temperature can be devastating to the health of your hair and cause excessive damage. Most women should consider setting the temperature of the iron in the mid to low levels and use them at this setting. With time and experience with your hair iron you will learn your hairstyle and know whether this is effective for you. If it is not than you can start moving the temperature setting up a little at a time until you find the optimal one for you.

It seems there are many materials being used for hair irons today and they all claim to be the best one for the job to be done. One such material is titanium and hair straightening irons made from titanium are some of the hottest ones on the market for both professionals as well as home users. So what makes titanium so exceptional at removing the frizz and curl from your hair?

Titanium flat irons are touted as some of the best on the market due to the way this material handles heat when it is applied to it. Titanium is capable of withstanding high heat settings and distributing it evenly throughout the plate. This material is also highly resistant to scratching so that the plates will remain as smooth as the day you first purchased the iron. This will mean that for years you will get quality snag free straightening from the titanium hair iron, long after other hair irons have been put out of service do to plate damage.

For many years titanium was only used in high end military equipment do to its amazing strength to weight ratio. But now you can use the heat distribution properties it contains to get the sleek straight hair you desire with a professional titanium hair iron.

Using A Hair Straightener For More Volume In Your Hair

March 31, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

When most women purchase their hair straightening iron they do so with the intentions of using the hair styling tool to remove the curl and frizz from their hair. Of course these professional styling tools are designed to do just that and they get the job done perfectly. But a straightener can also be used to put volume and even curl into a hair as well when used just right.

To add volume with a hair straightener it is simply a matter of which direct you will hold your hair and run the iron to encourage volume. When you want more body and no curl in your hair after washing and completely drying your hair divide your locks into many small sections that can easily fit into the plates of the hair straightener. Then on each section you will start as close to the scalp as possible and run the hair iron over your hair slowly while pulling the section you are working on directly upwards.

Once you have done each section this way flip your hair forwards and apply some hair spray to the roots to hold the volume you just put in place. Once you get used to using a hair straightener for more than just smoothing out hair you will begin to use it almost exclusively for all of your styling needs.

Use a Ceramic Curling Iron To Create Sexy Curls

February 5, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Curls are sexy, and if you’ve been blessed with naturally curly hair, you should appreciate how lucky you are. For those of us with straight hair, it is always nice to try something else out from time to time, and beautiful flowing curls are a nice change from your typical straight style.

When it comes to creating beautiful curls you don’t have to commit yourself to a perm that will damage your hair and leave you with a permanent head of curls. After all, you probably want to mix it up a bit. And sure, you could use a head of hot rollers to create your curls. But who wants to walk around with a head full of plastic for hours? If you want an easy and effective way to create beautiful curls, all you need is a professional curling iron.

When I tell you that you need a professional curling iron, I don’t mean that you need to spend thousands of dollars on a hair tool. What I mean is you must choose a quality curling iron that will get the job done without damaging your hair. A ceramic curling iron is the best choice for most users. Ceramic is a moisture conducting material that will actually infuse your hair with moisture as it’s curling your hair. What this means to you is that your hair won’t end up damaged by the heat and it will actually look shiner and healthier than when you started. That’s right, using a ceramic curling iron can actually improve the look of your hair.

Don’t be fooled by people who tell you that hair tools damage your hair. Those people are probably using inexpensive, low quality tools with metal barrels that will snag, burn and singe hair. And yes, if you use those types of hair tools, they will damage your hair. Choose quality hair tools that will improve the look of your hair.

For even healthier looking curls, look for a curling iron with tourmaline in it. Tourmaline is a naturally occurring element that actually emits negative ions. Those negative ions infuse the hair locking in moisture and sealing each and every hair cuticle, so hair lays flat against the head giving you a beautiful smooth curl. Forget about the frizzies and the broken looking hair that often results from over styling, with a curling iron infused with tourmaline, your hair and curls will never look better.

When you use a curling iron to create your curls, you have so much more control over how you want them to look. Do you want loose flowing curls? Or tight spiral curls? You’re in control when it comes to a curling iron unlike a perm or hot rollers where you are at the mercy of the rollers.

Don’t be afraid of curling irons, once you use them a few times, it’s easy to perfect the exact look that you are going for. They’re very easy to use, and the best part about them is that they are affordable and if you want to go back to your straight look tomorrow, you can.

Avoiding Too Much Heat To Your Hair In Winter

January 23, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Winter can be very tough on your hair since the outside air gets much dryer with the colder temperatures. This will rob your hair of its own personal natural oils, which help it look sleek and shiny therefore leaving it dried out and dull appearing. Using hair styling tools that do not have variable temperature settings can only add to the drying out of your hair that the winter weather is already causing.

Inexpensive hair tools do not have a way to control the temperature on you curling iron or hair straightening tool and this causes you to use more heat than necessary to get the job done especially if you have thin or fine hair. Most professional hair styling tools include a variable temperature setting that is easy to operate so you can dial in just the right amount for the job but not so much that you dry out your winter wary hair in the styling process. When combined with a excellent hair conditioner along with proper hair care such as never going outside with wet hair and despite the dryer than normal conditions you will still look your best right up until spring and beyond.

Choose Hair Irons Over Chemicals

January 21, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

If you were born with hard to manage, curly, out of control, and frizzy hair, there is no doubt that you probably like to straighten it from time to time. But do you straighten it every day? Some people like to use a hair iron everyday to straighten their hair and while this can be fine if you use the right iron, it also may be damaging your hair if you are using a low quality hair iron or aren’t using it properly. Many ladies consider chemically straightening their hair because they think it will be easier than using a hair straightener everyday and others feel that using a chemical straightening process will be gentler on their hair.

Before you make the decision to use chemicals to straighten your hair, you need to really think about it. How could it be possible that using chemicals on your hair would be safer or gentler than using a hair iron? It’s not possible. The fact is, you are putting chemicals on your head and letting them sit. This isn’t good for you, or your hair. After chemically straightening your hair, sure your hair will be straight, at least for a little while. But at what cost? Your hair will be damaged, broken, frizzy and may suffer permanent damage that will take a considerable amount of time to grow out. Sure you want straight hair, but I’m assuming that you would rather have healthy and shiny looking straight hair instead of damaged and broken straight hair.

So what’s your other alternative? The other choice, the better choice, is to choose a high quality hair straightener that will be gentle to your hair while getting the job done. If you think that a hair straightener will damage your hair if you use it every day, than you are not using the right type of hair iron.

You need to choose a hair straighter with ceramic plates. Ceramic plates infuse the hair with moisture locking in shine to leave your hair looking healthy and shiny. Another thing to look for in a hair iron is tourmaline. If you are truly worried about damaging your hair with a hair iron, look for a straightener with tourmaline. Tourmaline is a naturally occurring element that produces negative ions. Negative ions infuse each hair with moisture and seal in the natural oils in the hair. These ions also seal the cuticle shaft which allows the hair to lay flat so you won’t get any of that frizzy hair, and it will look shiner and healthier than ever because it will be healthier than before. Yes, a hair straightener can actually improve the health of your hair if you have the right one.

So before you make the big decision to chemically straighten your hair, consider all of the facts. Some people are put off by the cost of a professional hair straightener. But when you consider that these irons typically have very long warranties, sometimes even life warranties, and they improve the health of your hair, it is a small price to pay. If you were to choose chemically straightening your hair, it would not only be a large cost, but you would have to pay for it repeatedly and it would ruin your hair. It seems like a fairly easy decision to me. Choose healthy beautiful hair.

Taking Your Time To Straighten Your Hair

January 18, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Women who have had their hair straightened by a stylist think they could never get their hair to look as good as it does when they leave the salon. The one thing these women forget is the only things the stylist has they do not is a professional styling tool and experience. These are both things that you can get to do your hair at home for salon quality straight hair for a fraction of the cost, and without an appointment.

There are plenty of professional styling tools available including ceramic flat irons that can be purchased over the internet or at fine hair beauty supply shops. These are the same tools used by the professionals so that you have the exact same tools to get the job done just as they do.

The only other piece that a professional stylist has is experience and the only way to get this yourself is to just keep trying your hair iron on your hair and seeing what kind of looks you can get. One key thing to remember is that the stylist takes her time on each head of hair that she does and never rushes the job. Taking the time to glide the hair iron slowly and smoothly over each small section of hair is a large part of the success to getting great looking straight hair.
