Give It To Me Straight! Do I Need a Hair Iron?

October 8, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Do I really need a hair straightener? I mean, what do I really need one for?

These are common questions for those who have never experienced the benefits of a hair straightener. In fact, I heard these exact comments from a friend the other day who was simply not convinced that investing in a hair straightener was worthwhile. If you are struggling with the same questions, I’ll tell you the same things that I told her.

When it comes to looking your best, a hair straightener is one of the most efficient tools that you can have. Hair straightening irons are not only for the ladies with extremely curly hair that want a straight look. Not at all! This particular friend of mine has hair that is definitely not curly, but it does have a natural wave in it. Most of the time it looks a little messy because it’s neither straight nor curly.

Unless you were born with perfectly straight hair, a hair straightening iron is essential for achieving a beautiful sleek look. If you have hair like my friend’s, an iron will smooth out any kinks, or puffy spots to give you amazingly straight, gorgeous hair.

But what if I have extremely naturally curly hair? Will a hair straightener be able to tame my curls?

Absolutely! Many ladies with very naturally curly hair became discouraged with early models of hair straighteners because they simply weren’t strong enough, to straighten out their curls. They would have to go over and over their hair, damaging it in the process in order to get the look they wanted. Not anymore! Technology has changed and now there are a number of hair straighteners on the market that will tackle even the tightest curls and not only straighten the hair, but leave it looking healthy and amazing instead of damaged and frizzy.

When you’re looking for a straightener, choose one with titanium or ceramic plates and for even more effective straightening power, look for tourmaline technology which actually dries the hair from the inside out and produces a negative ion charge that closes the hair shaft, sealing in moisture to make it look and feel extremely healthy. No more frizzies!

But wearing my hair straight everyday might get boring. Is there anything else a hair straightener is good for?

Of course! Most women like to change up their style every once in a while, and you need a tool that will allow you to be versatile. A hair straightening iron can be that tool for you. You may think just by the name straightener that the only thing a hair iron is good for is straightening your hair. However, you can also create flips in your hair and even curls and waves all with the same tool. With a little practice, you create many different looks all with the same tool.

Well I have straight hair already, so I don’t need a hair straightener.

I beg to differ. Besides creating different styles with one tool, even if you have naturally straight hair, a straightener is still a very beneficial tool. The new technology that utilizes tourmaline which is a naturally occurring mineral actually helps to make your hair healthier. Tourmaline responds to heat by becoming electrically charged and emitting negatively charged ions. These negative ions smooth your hair, by closing the hair shaft. Eliminating breakage, split ends and dry frizzy looking hair. Your hair will look healthier than ever before!

It doesn’t matter what your hair type is, you can benefit from the investment in a quality hair straightener and achieve beautiful, healthy looking hair!

Using The Proper Temperature On Hair Tools

Many women fail to use the variable temperature settings on their hair tools properly with many just putting them on the highest setting and leaving it. This can be very unhealthy for your hair and may cause more damage than most women realize. Using too hot of a temperature on hair straightening irons and curling irons will of course do the obvious and scorch your hair causing unnecessary damage. But many women do not realize that this excess heat can also cause hair loss, which will leave your hair less full and invigorating. Prevent damage to your hair by finding and using the temperature, which is best for your hair type.

Being Safe With Hair Irons

Hair straightening irons and curling irons cause injuries to many people every year do to the potential for burns and the fact that many women are in a hurry to get to work when they are using them. These irons get very hot very fast and if you are not careful it is very easy to get a burn on your scalp or hand before you realize what is going on. Also make sure that hair is completely dry before you begin using these styling tools as they can not just scorch your hair but create a steam burn potential as well. You should always slow down when you are using these hair hot irons to ensure that you will not get hurt while you are using them.

Is the Heat From Hair Irons Bad For Your Hair?

September 21, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Hair straightening irons are extremely popular right now since straight hair is in such high demand by those who were born with naturally curly hair. Many question if the high heat which hair irons expose your hair to is good for the overall health of your hair. If used right these irons will not damage your hair, but if they are not used properly then damage can occur. If the hair iron has exposed metal on the plates or if the user does not use the proper temperature setting with the variable temperature setting than the potential is there to expose hair to unnecessary heat which can cause damage and dry it out.

Using Professional Hair Straighteners For Best Results

Do you really want to damage your hair just to straighten it out to get the latest look seen on the runways? Then why use those cheap hair straighteners to do the job because this is what happens when hair irons that are made with inferior materials are used on the head. Discount hair straighteners tend to heat up unevenly which creates hot spots, plus they often have your hair exposed to raw metal both of these situations can cause your hair to get scorched, which cannot usually be repaired. This means cutting your hair and letting it grow back in healthy. The easy way to avoid all this trouble is to use the best hair flat iron possible in the first place.

Hair straightening irons which utilize titanium and ceramic are so superior to any of the cheap discount straighteners that they will pay for themselves in no time with their pure quality. Not only are these professional hair irons better for your hair, they also are easier to get great results from so you will look like you were at a salon all day getting ready for a big night out. Of course only you will need to know that you straightened out your own hair to get this really hot look so many women want.

Options for Straightening Hair

So many women want straight luxurious hair right now and the stars in Hollywood and models on the runway only encourage this by keeping the look in fashion as the in style to have. Of course if you are not born with naturally straight hair you can either get it chemically or by using hair straightening irons.

Of course the option to chemically straighten your hair will not be available if you use permanent coloring on your hair even if there is just a little at the ends left this must be gone before you can use chemical straighteners. Also those who swim in pools a lot cannot use these chemical straighteners as the chlorine in the water will have very negative effects on your hair.

If the above conditions apply to you or if you just do not want to subject your hair to those nasty chemicals then hair straightening irons are the more effective way to get that straight hair. The drawback to this method is it does not last long at all so the most cost effective way is to purchase quality salon hair straighteners and do the work yourself as opposed to going to the hair dresser every time you want your hair straightened.

For women who have long very curly hair straightening irons are perfect for removing those curls and getting gorgeous straight hair. But if you have to put in a really long day sometimes your hair tends to get a little puffy and as the straight starts to go out and the curl begins to come back in. One tip to keep your hair straight longer is to place the part on the side of your head as opposed to the middle. This will place extra weight on the strands which will help hold down the strands to keep your hair sleek and straight.

Avoiding Summer Hair Damage

There are so many things that women expose their hair to some in the name of beauty and some just because we do not truly understand the damage which is occurring to our hair. To reduce the damage to your hair consider wearing a hat to reduce the amount of sun it is exposed to. Also consider adding a little baby oil to your hair before entering the pool to reduce the damage from chlorine. Make sure you are using the right temperature settings on your hair straightening irons and curing irons so that your hair is not exposed to any unnecessary temperatures.
