What’s Wrong With Routines

April 23, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

More and more women every day are noticing differences in their hair. Whether it be the texture, the color or the amount they have, it isn’t always pleasant. For older women, it can be frustrating to see their once young and luscious hair turn to dead ends with a bad gray color. Of course, there are solutions for this problem but not all women are fans of dying their hair. Sometimes hair dye makes the texture of hair not so fun to mess with. It’s hard to restore already dead/split ends. Although there are these women who are cautious about the future of their hair, there are also women out there who would do anything to look younger- that includes changing their daily routine.

So many people find it hard to believe, but there are women in the world who are seventy years old and refuse to go out without straightening or back combing their hair. What they don’t realize is how fragile their hair is and how dangerous all of this stuff can be. Once women hit a certain period in life, they stop producing certain hormones and their bodies begin to change. One of those type of hormones includes those that help create the kind of protein to keep hair strong. This means that their hair will begin to break down slowly each day. This already is bad news bears but when they continue to use hair straighteners or hair dye, they are only making it worse.

A typical day of a woman at the age of seventy should include something simple like waking up, drinking a cup of coffee, and bathing before a nice luncheon with other elderly women. However, it becomes damaging and dangerous when women decide to wake up and shower, blow dry, straighten, sit in the sun and then touch up their roots at night before bed. This is a dangerous process for any age girl but especially for those who have hair that is done growing any body or silky texture. Bad hair starts with the daily procedure you put the ends through.

If you decide at an older age that you want to keep it healthy and beautiful for life, its a good decision to leave it be and let it do its thing. Trying to hard actually ends up making hair look duller and uglier depending on all you do with it. Not to say that straightening hair every other week for a special event is a bad thing. It becomes a problem after repeatedly doing so each and every day. With lots of heat and light exposure, the cuticle of the hair breaks down twice as fast for older women. If using any type of heat source, use it in increments. This means you shouldn’t use both a straightener and a blow drier in the same day. Keep a good variety and don’t overuse any of the sources.

Facebook-Inspired Styles

March 18, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Lots of girls think that they have to get celebrity-inspired styles for big events. It’s a smart idea and not to mention a very popular idea too. The only thing is, usually hairdressers can’t do exactly what pictures of celebrities look like. It’s a little more difficult than it seems because everyone’s hair is different for one thing. For another thing, celebrity stylists have access to the most top-of-the-line tools because of who’s hair they style. It’d be boring to see a celebrity on the red carpet with their tossed up into a ponytail wouldn’t it?

Most stylists use tools like hair straighteners and curling irons to reach the exact style that their client may be after. Although these tools are available to everyone around the world, celebrity hairstylists own brands of these tools that some couldn’t even imagine to afford. Certain straighteners are extremely hard to get your hands on and it’s not something so simple as just going to Wal-Mart and grabbing an iron for twenty bucks. We’re talking hundreds of dollars for a simple straightener and why? Because it’s used on stylists like Jessica Alba and Taylor Swift.

One tip you can use to help get more realistic ideas for prom would be to look at websites like Facebook or Pinterest. These websites have styles inspired by girls who are going to the exact same occasions if you search specifically for “prom styles.” Facebook is great because you can search a hairstyle that one of your friends from school used in previous years. If you don’t want them to think you copied you, change a little something about the style-pull your bangs back into a poof or add in a flower to distract from identical matching. This is where Pinterest may be a little more helpful. You can search “prom styles” and you won’t get pictures of girls from your school but the pictures will still be realistic. Maybe you can even save a little more money by finding a DIY (do it yourself) kind of hairstyle for your big night.

Using celebrity-inspired styles on your hair is really fun and a great way to pull of the biggest night of the year. The only problem is that it may not give you the most realistic styles. Some of the styles can be impossible to pull of, depending on how detailed the style is. Go ahead and do a search for fun celebrity ideas, but remind yourself to take a look at your number one visited website, Facebook. You’d be surprised at how many fun styles you can find.

The Life Of A Straight Girl

March 3, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

People often ask me what my natural hair looks like. Recently, I have been lazy about styling my hair each day and just have had no time to do anything besides shower and let it hang the whole day. Of course it dries as the day goes on but so many people ask if I straighten my hair after it dries because it looks pin straight, draping down my shoulders. The truth is, I probably have the straightest hair known to mankind. Having naturally straight hair does have its perks at times but it definitely is not as fun as having wavy hair.

When I wake up in the morning and begin styling my hair, I realize how straight my hair already is and instantly, I know that my routine will not take as long as most girls my age. Since my hair is so naturally straight, I can cut about twenty minutes off of  my “getting ready for the day” time each morning. I either let it go for the day, only running a brush through the ends or I throw it up in a ponytail. This is a benefit of having straight hair because it allows me to focus on eating a bigger breakfast, doing my makeup better, or picking out a prettier outfit. But there are some cons to having straight hair too.

Each time that I look in my hair in the mirror, I am reminded how dull and boring it is. I wish that somedays it would hold a little bounce in the roots. I can barely even tease my hair because it’s so thin and fine and straight. Thicker, curlier hair tends to hold volume much easier. It’s also not fun having straight hair because you can’t really mix up your style each day. It gets boring wearing my hair straight day after day while other girls can scrunch their hair with gel some days and show off their natural waves.

I do use hair straighteners, but not as often as most people my age. This could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. It saves me some time and damage to my ends but it also limits what else I can do to style my hair each morning, especially if I don’t have time to do something fun like curl it to be bouncy. There may be others in the world with the same problem that I have, but I must say, my hair has got to be one of the straightest out there.

Do You Really Need Two Straighteners?

February 26, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Some households have all girls in them. Some households have only one girl in them. Either way, most households own a hair straightener to style hair with each day. The trendy hairstyle has been known to be popular with girls but some guys even do it if their hair is long enough. What if you are the only girl in your household and you own two or more hair straighteners? Doesn’t that seem a little ridiculous?

Many people would beg to differ that owning more than one straightener is odd. It’s easy to understand if there were two or three or even four girls in the same household. Each of those girls could have different types of hair (thick, thin, wavy, extremely curly) and each girl may need to use a different straightener. Weird as it may sound, there are households of one girl who owns three hair straighteners. I, myself, am the only daughter left in my house but I own three hair straighteners. Of course I have my favorite flat iron over the others but they all get used just as equally as the other. But is it really necessary to own more than one hair straightener?

More than one straightener in a household of one girl, in my opinion, can be bittersweet. I don’t mind owning three at once, as long as there is room to store each of the other two that aren’t in use. Some girls don’t even use the other straighteners that are in their house; they use the same straightener everyday and let the other(s) lie in the cupboard to collect dust. This is the part that doesn’t seem right in my mind. Why own so many yet only use one; you could get money out of the unused ones!

However, one reason some girls may own more than one flat iron is because one straightener may have a feature that the others don’t. For example, one of my flat irons has a rounded edged plate that makes it easier to curl hair with a straightener. Some girls like to use straighteners to curl their hair instead of an actual curling iron, so this kind of straightener is great for them. Some irons may have higher heat settings also and can therefore straighten better than others. Variety of plate sizes are also a popular reason for multiple straighteners in one household as well.

Whatever your reason may be for owning more than one straightener in your house, it’s not a crime so who cares, carry on! It’s more fun for girls to own more than one of something so they can switch up their look everyday. Even if you’re the only girl/woman in your household, you can find more than one straightener that will help you accomplish perfect looks every single day.

Myths Of Straightening

February 12, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

When we straighten our hair, we are looking to give it shine and elegance. The point of two heated plates is to reduce the look of a frizzy snarly mess. When we use hair straighteners, we create a look that we always want our hair to have. Straightening is great for removing the frizz and giving a shinier look. There are rumors about straightening out there, though. Some people think that by straightening hair, we will permanently damage the follicle.

Everyone has their own opinion about everything. With hair straightening, there are opinions and then there are myths that have truths behind them. So many people think that styling with two heated plates is the worst thing in the world. Yes, this process has its cautions but I’m here to set the rumors straight about what’s bad and good. First off, the most heard about myth is that fact that by straightening hair daily, the hair will be permanently ruined. The truth: if you use a significant amount of heat protectant, your hair should be fine to style each day. The high temperatures of a straightener tend to scare people but as long as you use the appropriate settings and also use a protectant, your hair should be fine. You may also want to give it a day to breathe (away from the straightener) once a week or so, just to let things relax for a day.

Another myth is the difference between a professional ceramic straightener and a store-bought ceramic straightener. Some say if you use the more expensive, professionally designed straightener, you will give your hair a little more shine and it won’t be as harsh on the follicle. This is definitely not true. The truth is, ceramic is ceramic; you can’t get more damage from one kind than another. By using a store-bought ceramic plated straightener, you are not creating a more harsh kind of heat for your hair. The temperature of the straightener matters but not the kind of ceramic material that it’s made out of.

The last and most ridiculous myth I’ve heard deals with hair color. It has been said that the damage done to your hair from a straightener has a little something to do with the color of your hair… False! How could it have anything to do with color? Just because a woman has red hair does not mean she is going to get more split ends from her flat iron than her friend with brown hair. This makes no sense whatsoever and should not be taken seriously. The factor that effects hair the most is the amount of times you straighten over one piece of hair and the temperature setting that the iron is set on.

For every myth, there is a truth behind it. No matter what anyone says about the damage affect of a hair straightener, get back to the logic of your myth before you begin questioning things and deciding whether something is right or wrong. Not everything has to be bad for your hair, as long as you use the right, efficient steps to create your luscious locks.

A Tool That May Help With Updo’s

January 11, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Winter time is the best time for formal events. Long and sleek dresses, beautiful diamond jewelry, and don’t forget the big hair. Most women stick with lustrous updo’s for formal events, which can require lots and lots of pins and hairspray. Some stylists even use curlers to give hair volume and bounce. What some people don’t know, though, is that a hair straightener can even help put things together when styling your hair in an updo.

Although it won’t help give much volume, you can use a hair straightener as a tool to help weave through your strands and get the perfect silky start before you perform an updo with your hair. Some straighteners are great for this because they remove some frizz and smooth over curls that may be winding through your hair. The best part about using a straightener to start, however, is that it gives your hair a fresh look that will last all through the night. Most women who have a shorter length of bangs use a flat iron to style after their hair is already in the updo, to give the hair a classier look. If a straightener can do that on bangs, imagine the kind of work it can perform on longer strands of hair!

To begin, spritz a root lifter and a small amount of heat protectant spray. You won’t need too much of the heat protectant spray because you won’t be using your straightener to completely go over your whole head of hair. The key to this process is to remember, you aren’t straightening all of your hair, you’re only going over a few areas to give a good polished look before beginning an updo. After spraying the product into your hair, you may want to finger through and find pieces that need to be straightened. Whether they look dry or curly, your best bet is to run the straightener through so your updo won’t look sloppy. The goal is to create a sexy hairstyle, not a bird’s nest on top of your head.

To get the best look in your strands, run your straightener through the hair at a diagonal angle. Most women press the plates through their hair at a horizontal angle, which will create a dented look in the hair. The dents may not be quite as evident in an updo since all of the hair will be pressed back, but it’s still a good idea to get a smoother look. As you begin straightening more and more, you may notice that other pieces of hair look sloppy compared the newly straightened pieces. This isn’t a big deal, as the straightened pieces will cover up the not so straight strands in the end. You may run through the others but it won’t make too much of a difference in the final look.

After you have used the straightener enough and have smoothed through the hair for elegance, you may begin to pin it back into your updo. As some clients of stylists have noticed, pieces that hang out of the updo look a bit flirtier if they are curly. However, since it is the season for sexy and sleek styled dresses, your hair should match your formal outfit by being just as soft and smooth as the dress you wear. The final look of an updo looks very polished and professional when it is straight.

Titanium Hair Straighteners Vs. Ceramic

November 7, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

A majority of women love to get themselves all dressed up for a night on the town. After a long day in the office or slaving away at home, they feel worn out and are ready to go out and just have fun. Whether that means date night or time away with the girls, one thing is for sure and that is the fact that they need a great hairstyle to show off.

Some women may need up to two hours to get themselves ready. Between make up and styling hair, it can be a pretty timely process to get “pretty.” With a titanium hair straightener, the process becomes hours easier and you won’t even realize it because of the great performance. The great features of this straightener will also make your hair look more stylish than with a ceramic straightener. Not only is time important but you want your styling tool (whatever it may be) to make your hair look freshly polished and shiny, not dry and broken.

One of the great benefits of titanium is that it is naturally enhanced with minerals to make your hair silky looking. It can be deceiving to see girls on T.V. who have perfectly shiny hair. Celebrities can make it look so easy to be glamourous for the camera, but when it comes to real life it’s not as easy. However, with the titanium hair straighteners, you can make styling be simple and quick.

Titanium can be easy to style with because it has many features that will please you each time you use it. One of the greatest things about the titanium iron is that it is made with infrared technology. This is what makes it look just like the celebrities you idolize because the purpose of infrared technology is to remove all static from your hair. This is how celebrities get their shiny, smooth look with no flyaway’s and this is how you can also do it!

Later you can consider the fact that while you are straightening your hair you are also locking in tons of moisture. This because of another kind of technology called Micro-porous technology. It is used in the straightener because its pattern of material is what creates a smooth texture. Because of the way it is made, the material on the iron glides through your hair and makes each individual strand of hair look and feel great.

Some of the greatest things in hairstyling are brought to you by the technology you use. You may not even know it but some of the technology used in your ceramic hair straightener is damaging your hair so much. When you create a mask for the moisture in your hair, like you do with a titanium straightener, you are protecting it from breakage and heat damage.

Keep your hair sealed and protected each day with a new titanium hair straightener. After the use of so much heat on your hair, you need a change for the better. With a titanium kind of material you will definitely lessen the damage done to your hair and will have healthy hair for a more extended time.

The Advances In Modern Hair Straighteners

March 25, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Women today have hair styling so easy and yet many do not realize just how good they have it with the modern styling tools and products available to them. As recently as the 60’s women were using styling tools that were still as primitive as the first models created before the turn of the century. These early tools were more like medieval torture devices that caused significantly more damage to the hair with one use than our modern hair tools cause in their lifetime.

A great example is the method women have used over the years to remove the excess curl from their hair. In the past everything has been used from harsh chemicals that caused severe burns to the scalp when used or even clothing irons to smooth out the body in the hair. Neither method was very effective and both were very dangerous and damaging to the user.

The modern professional flat iron is made with some of the best material available such as tourmaline and titanium so that they are not only effective at straightening the hair but also gentle to the hair and the user in the process. These modern hair straighteners and styling tools are so much farther advanced than tools of the past women of today should be very happy that they do not have to suffer to style their hair.

Hair Straightners With Tourmaline

January 5, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

If you are new to hair straighteners, or you simply haven’t shopped around for an updated tool in a little while, you may be confused with some of the new products that are available these days. There have been considerable number of advancements in the hair styling world and that includes the development of new and exciting hair tools that work even better than before. If you are still using a glass or metal hair straightener to style your hair, stop now before you do even more damage to your hair! You owe it to yourself to check out what’s new with hair irons.

When it comes to hair straighteners, you may have heard about new hair irons that utilize tourmaline. If you’re unsure about what tourmaline is, it is a naturally occurring element that is found in nature. Tourmaline is a natural source of negative ions when heat is applied, and it emits a large quantity of these ions. The reason that tourmaline is important to hair straighteners is because when the heat from the iron heats up the tourmaline, negative ions are created and those negative ions are actually a great benefit to your hair.

When negative ions are emitted from a hair straightener, they infuse each hair, going directly into the hair shaft. Negative ions actually close the hair cuticle sealing in natural oils and moisture. Because all of the hair cuticles are flattened it means that every hair on your head will lay flat on your head instead of sticking up and looking frizzy and over treated. And because all of the natural oils and moisture are locked into each hair, your hair will be soft and manageable instead of dry and frizzy. In fact, your hair will likely look better than it ever has before, healthier and more radiant.

And there’s more. Tourmaline also produces far infrared heat which works to dry your hair from the inside out instead of the other way around. What does that mean to you? Well, it means more time because it only takes a fraction of time to straighten your hair with a tourmaline iron than other types which means that you will be out the door with perfectly styled hair in no time. And because less heat is required to accomplish the straightened look it means that your hair isn’t exposed to harmful heat for very long minimizing the chance of any damage ever occurring.

You shouldn’t have to sacrifice the quality of your hair just because you want to achieve a straight look. And using the old style glass and metal plate hair irons cause a great deal of damage to the health of the hair. No longer will you have to suffer through damaged, unhealthy hair all in the name of style. With the new tourmaline hair straighteners, you can accomplish beautiful sleek and sexy styles and actually make your hair healthier and more beautiful than you ever thought possible. So stop sacrificing and make the leap to a tourmaline hair straightener today.

Wrap Up Those Last Minute Gifts

December 18, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

There’s only a week left to go before Christmas. Have you finished your shopping yet? In the frenzy of the holidays, it is so easy to forget one or two gifts, or think that you got something for that special someone, when really you forgot. Or maybe you’re one of those people who leaves all their shopping to the last minute. Whatever your shopping style is, if you find yourself in the situation of needing last minute Christmas gifts there is nothing better than giving the gift of style this holiday season by gifting quality hair styling tools.

There are so many choices when it comes to giving hair styling tools, and everywoman on your list will appreciate a quality hair styling tool. If you are stumped on what type of tool to buy, go with a hair straightener. A quality hair iron can be used for so much more than simply hair straightening. Yes, of course you will be able to create sexy, sleek styles, but you can also flip hair out or in, and even add glamorous curls. Yes. Curls with a hair iron.

A quality hair iron also acts like a hair treatment for hair. Instead of damaging hair, like cheaper hair straighteners, a quality iron that is made with ceramic plates and utilizes the power of tourmaline and far infrared heat will actually nourish the hair creating glossier, healthier looking hair than before. The tourmaline and far infrared heat infuses each hair, sealing in the natural oils and moisture to keep it looking healthy, while at the same time sealing the cuticle so that each hair lays flat on the head. So you can say good bye to those frizzy fly aways.

Another great choice for anyone on your gift list is a quality hair dryer. Because even if you have a hair dryer, everyone can use a high quality dryer that cuts their drying time in half and creates healthier hair. Who wouldn’t want that? Choose a hair dryer that uses ionic technology. Negative ions go deep into each hair to dry from the inside, out. This means that hair dries faster. Much faster. In fact, by using an ionic dryer, you can get your hair dry up to 60% faster. How’s that for a Christmas gift?  Not only are you giving an awesome dryer, but you’re also giving the gift of more time in the morning. I’m sure you know someone on your list that could use an extra cup of coffee in the morning instead of drying her hair.

If you are stuck on what to buy that special someone on your gift list, take a good look at quality hair tools, because everyone likes to look good and if you can look good with healthier hair in the process, well that’s just an extra. So wrap up a little style this Christmas and give everyone on your last minute shopping list something that they can really use – all year long.
