Celebrity Hair Review: Katy Perry

June 8, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

One of my favorite artists is Katy Perry. She is ever-growing and lets nothing slow her down; it makes everyone love her even more. Another part of her that everyone loves is her spunky and edgy sense of style. When she first came out with her hit single “I Kissed A Girl” we were all in shock that someone would write a song about that but then as she became more famous and got even more comfortable in Hollywood, she started changing a few other things about her. For example, she started dressing in things like bras that shoot out whipped cream and started dying her hair different shades of pink and purple-even if they were wigs, we all learned to love her a little bit more.

Let’s face it, it’s so hard to get recognized in Hollywood today and Katy had her own way of doing so. Some of her songs have been considered borderline crazy-she falls in love with an alien in one song, she sings about kissing another girl and even has a song about sexual terms but that’s what kept her in touch with record companies-it kept them guessing. As fans, we’re also always guessing and wondering what she will do next with her fun yet kooky style.

Recently, Katy Perry filmed a movie about herself called Katy Perry: Part of Me. Although it’s not in theatres yet, in the previews you see many different hairstyles and colors that she sports and it may make you wonder a few things. How does she have such pretty hair after so many different styles and transformations? It’s so true, her hair is absolutely perfect and it never looks like there’s a strand out of place. Now of course she has a stylist that can make her hair look like brand new each day and she probably wears wigs half the time but sometimes it is her real hair that is colored blue or hot pink. And how does she keep such healthy hair?

That’s just it, she has a stylist. There are some people that aren’t celebrities dye who their hair almost once a week and their hair will never look as good as Katy Perry’s. She inspires many people today because of her fun hair but the difference between our hair and her hair is that she pays someone thousands of dollars a year to make it look stunning and completely non-damaged. Whereas we can barely afford a cut and color every month or so. I would be willing to be that if Katy Perry showed her true hair, without extensions, without any hair dye in it, she would have very damaged and dull hair because of all the things she puts it through.

Katy Perry is one of the greatest artists of our time and we all envy her for her stunning performances and appearance. Although I do love her hair, the damage she’s done between dying and styling, I don’t envy her for. The use of a straightener is evident in her hair each time you see her and although it’s not necessarily a bad thing, it can be bad after so long. Katy better watch how she styles her hair-it could come back to haunt her.

Getting Great Cuts For Thick Hair

January 26, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Women who have thin hair look at those with thick tresses and wish they had hair like that, but those with that really thick hair sometimes struggle to get good looks with so much hair to work with. To those with thin hair it may sound amazing but too much hair can actually be hard to style and weigh itself down so you do not look your best.

Of course for women who have this problem the solution is very simple and that it thinning. For these women a pair of hair thinning shears in the hands of a skilled stylist can mean getting the easy to manage looks that will have them appearing their absolute best. Thinning shears are specially designed to remove only some of the hair with each cut to do exactly as the name applies, to thin the hair out. This means there will be less hair weighing down the style that will result in more volume even though that sounds like it should be totally opposite. A good thinning can make the style of women with really thick hair pop so that it can looks its best and a stylist with thinning shears can make this happen for a great look.

Getting Straight Hair From Those Natural Curls

Many women with very curly hair look at the fashion magazines and wish they could have that sleek shiny straight hair that many of the models have in the ads in those magazines. Though there is way to easily straighten curly hair so that everyone can have that clean stylish look seen on the fashion models. To get this look women can either use a chemical straightening process or a hair straightening iron. Chemicals are very harsh on your hair and can be very expensive. While hair irons are only a one-time fee to buy the iron, and from there you can straighten your hair just like the salon does at your home whenever you want.

For those with naturally curly hair who prefer to straighten their locks often, proper care should be taken to ensure the hair remains healthy and vibrant under these styling conditions. When shampooing your hair use moisturizing products as well as a leave in conditioner to help your hair be hydrated and healthy for the extra styling. Dry your hair section by section while using a soft large brush to beginning straightening the hair before you even get the hair iron out. Once dry finish straightening with a hair styling iron to get an absolutely stunning straight hair look.

Getting That Tousled Long Hair Look

One of the latest fashion trends for hair involves laid back wavy hair very similar to the classic beach look that comes natural to some lucky women. This look can be easily attended by most anyone though with a simple hair curling iron. It is best to use quality hair curling irons such as a ionic or ceramic based models which are so much better for your hair than the cheaply made drugstore models which have your hair against bare metal to curl the strands.

It is tempting to try and curl all of your hair to get this look and then hope you can mess it up enough to make it look natural. This is not the best way to get these carefree curls though. Use your curling iron to curl only random pieces of hair about two inches up from the bottom of the hair and stopping about eye level. These randomly created curls on only part of your head will give not only body but also the messy casual appearance that so many women want to achieve. This is one easy to get hairstyle that you will love to use your curling iron to create not only for work but also for a great night out.

Blow Drying Your Hair for Best Results

July 16, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Many women do not spend enough time learning how to properly blow dry their hair and this can really make it more difficult on them once they actually go to style it. A good blow dryer can be so good for your hair some individuals will go to a salon and pay very good money just to have this done for them on occasion.

With a wide toothed comb, a good hair brush, and an ionic hair dryer you can get salon quality drying at home with just a little practice and patience. Completely comb out all tangles with the wide toothed comb then blow dry your hair with a high heat until mostly, but not all the way dry. Divide your hair into sections and finish drying from root to tip in each section. Always make sure the blow drying is blowing down the strand of hair from root to tip to make sure no hair becomes flyaway which can make your hair look frizzy once you are done. As you are drying each section keep it combed out with the bristle brush to help work your hair into the look of sleek and shiny.

Make Your Hair Summer Easy to Care For

It seems like most women want hair they do not have. Those with straight hair want bouncy curls, while those with curly hair want that sleek straight look. In the summertime we all want a hairstyle that is quick and easy to maintain so we can spend more time enjoying vacations, the beach, and the summer sun instead of being stuck in front of the mirror. Many fashion experts say that the best way to look good in the summer without spending hours in front of the mirror is to go natural.

Heat and humidity tend to make natural curly hair even more curlier than usual, so go with those curls. Let them bounce and give your hair body instead of taking the time to use a hair straightening iron to remove them. Save the straight hair look for winter time when the cold weather chases you indoors and there is less summer sun to enjoy.

For those with naturally straight hair the heat and humidity seems to way down any bounce you try to put into your hair. Let it be sleek, shiny and straight for the summer. An ionic curling iron will do wonders in the fall and winter for you, but why spend the time in the summer. Get out there and enjoy yourself with a simple blow dry and go hairstyle using nothing but hair blow dryers and protection from the summer sun.

Hair Straightening Tips

Getting sleek shiny straight hair with an ceramic hair iron, takes a little practice but once you master some simple techniques you can quickly and easily master the straight hair look, which is so popular currently.

  • Use the lowest heat setting necessary on the hair straightening tool for your hair type – Professional hair tools have variable temperature adjustments which will allow you to choose the settings which is just right for your hair. Thin or damaged hair should stay in the lower temps while very thick hair will need higher settings to optimally straightener the hair. While most hair types will use the middle temperature settings on the ceramic hair straightener to get the curl out.
  • Comb your hair out before attempting to straightener your hair with a flattening iron – Tangles in your hair will not straighten properly with a ceramic hair iron, so comb out your hair thoroughly to get the absolute smoothest straightening of your hair possible.
  • Straighten you hair in sections – It is easiest to divide your hair into small manageable areas to straighten. This makes the heat from the ceramic hair iron more effective on the area that you are currently working on.
  • Work from root to tip – Slowly run the hair straightening tool you are using from the root of the current section you are working to the tip in a smooth gliding motion.

With a little time and practice you can become as good as a professional stylist at straightening your hair with a hair straightening tool.

Getting Wavy Hair with a Hair Straightening Tool

May 22, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Everyone knows the best way to get straight luxurious hair if you were not born with it is by using a hair straightening tool. But did you know that same tool could be used to give you gorgeous wavy curls just as easily as it can produce straight hair?  You can make curls and waves with any hair-straightening tool, but it is easier to accomplish a nice curl when you use a hair iron that has a slight curve on the edges of the ceramic plates of the flat iron.

To curl your hair with your professional hair iron divide the hair into small sections so you can curl small areas at a time. Begin at the root of each section of hair and use the flat iron horizontally on the section of hair. Slowly move the hair straightening tool from the root to the top flipping the iron 180 degrees every little bit. By flipping the iron as you go down the section you will create small subtle waves in your hair. You will need to take your time and go slowly on each strand of hair to ensure the heat has the opportunity to take to the hair and create the waves. Once you get the hang of it you will have a hard time deciding between the straight hair look and the wavy hair look when you head out for the evening.

Damaged Hair – Repair Hair Damage

May 14, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Having damaged hair can be distressing. You spend all your money on products that promise results, you style your hair, hope for the best and still your hair looks damaged in the final process. How can you fix your hair once it is damaged? Well, we will go over some ideas to help “reduce” damage and in some cases fix it.

Do you wake up in the morning with what looks like a matted ball on the back of your head? Is your hair one length but yet after about an hour of styling you notice tons of little hairs that are shorter than the rest sticking out all over the place? These are fixable, or shall I say after putting these tips to use you will get less damage.

All people should use a silk pillow case over their pillow because this allows your hair to move freely while moving in your sleep. People with thin fine hair get the most damage and therefore require this type of pillow case at all times. When you sleep you move around a lot thus matting your hair in the back. After time this will cause damage and breakage to your hair and soon you will notice that your hair seems to be getting thinner just in the back area. You should hand wash your pillow case in cold water and hang to dry, you do not want to get snags in it which would also snag your hair after some time.

Never use elastic bands on your hair, they get tangled easily and when you try to remove them they cause breakage. When you use hair ties you should make sure that they are not bound up too tight, this causes breakage also. In some cases hair will become too damaged and require some cutting and deep conditioning treatments.

Breakage is what makes your hair look like it has shorter pieces all over and stick out every which way.

This is a close up of a piece of hair that has been broken and is splitting, ergo split ends.

When you brush your hair always start from the bottom and work your way up, this will prevent ripping your hair and breaking it. If you have a lot of hair it is wise to use a detangler. Johnson and Johnson’s no more tangles is a good product, good enough for babies then definitely good enough for you. Spray this in and start brushing from the bottom up. Do this every time you brush, I know it is time consuming but in the long run you will notice that you have less breakage. Continue this process of “silk pillow, loose hair ties, and brushing from bottom to top” and you will notice that as your hair grows you will no longer have this problem of flyaways. Till next time Good Luck.
