Why Do We Care About Hair?

August 2, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Why do we care so much about our hair? I mean it’s just hair, right, so what’s the big deal? Why can’t we just wake up and walk out the door? Instead we have to worry about straightening our hair or making sure it looks presentable for the world. I’m just as guilty as anyone out there but I still think it’s odd that we worry so much about our appearances here in America. In Europe people hardly shower so we could probably quit caring so much, right?

Wrong. Hygiene is something that is so important no matter who you are or where you’re from. Not just washing your hair daily but making sure that you get a proper haircut at the proper time and keep it nice and trimmed. We don’t only use shampoo and hair scissors in America to improve our appearance; we do it to keep a healthy feel to our hair too. Why is this so important, you might ask.

In America people care a lot more about appearance and/or first impressions than people do in other countries. That’s the reason most people take care of themselves better here but what they don’t realize is that we can keep ourselves healthier and feeling better too by keeping up with our healthy look. There are a couple reasons as to how this is true is. One is because when we have a healthy trim for our hair every six to eight weeks, it gets rid of all split ends and problem areas that can become a pain to deal with down the road. This means that instead of standing and trying over and over to get your hair to cooperate in the morning, you could make it easy to style and a lot less strenuous on yourself.

Another reason it is important to maintain good hygiene is to prevent sickness. If you shower every day, you will keep all the bad/dirty skin cells away from your immune system. It may seem weird that a shower can keep you from getting sick but it’s true-keeping skin and hair clear of dirt and grime will keep a higher tolerance from cold and flu viruses.

It’s good to know that you can keep yourself healthy just by washing your hair daily. And who doesn’t want to save a few minutes in the morning instead of waste an hour on just their hair? These helpful tips will make each day of hairstyling a little bit better.

Along with winter comes harsh cold winds, rain and snow. All of these environmental stresses can cause damage to your hair if it is not properly taken care of. Hair can become dry and brittle thus more prone to split ends, frizziness and dull looking hair.

To keep your hair healthy and strong during the cold months try changing some of your hair care products to hair products that will help nourish and protect your hair.

Try a Smoothing Hair Condtioner for dry, unruly hair as this can help manage frizz and fly aways. Curly Hair? Opt for a conditioner such as KMS California Curl Up Conditioner For Dry Curls. KMS Curl Up Conditioner is an intense moisture treatment to help keep curls soft and tangle free.

Hair Care – How to Choose the Best Hair Care Products for Your Hair

September 21, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

When it comes to taking care of your hair, working with your hair, rather than against it, is what will help you achieve and maintain healthy hair.

Most important is knowing your hair type. Is it dry, damaged from styling? Perhaps you have oily hair or hair that is limp and fine. Coarse, thick hair requires different hair care products than hair that is frizzy and thin. Hair can also be like our skin, and have a combination such as oily roots and dry ends. Contrary to what many people believe, you don’t have use products from the same line or even the same brand for better results either. I myself use a volume shampoo and a conditioner for color treated hair.

Once you have determined your hair type choosing the best hair care products for your hair is much easier and the results of working with your hair type will be much better.

Choosing the best hair care products doesn’t necessarily mean spending a lot as many will believe. Now a days you can find Salon Hair Care Products online for much less than you would pay at a salon. Some drug stores also carry salon brand shampoos, conditioners and styling products at lower prices as well.

A lot of the time it can be trial and error and choosing your hair care products based on how great your friends hair looks isn’t always the best way to go either, as her hair may need different products than yours. Be sure to read labels, ask your stylist for advice and choose hair care products for your hair.

Avoiding Hair Damage In Your Hair Products

October 28, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Many women blame their styling and hair care tools for damaged and even thinning hair when actually they may be blaming the wrong source. Many styling shampoos and styling products contain chemicals, which can not only dry out your hair but also interfere with the overall health of your tresses. If you think your hair styling tools are causing the damage to your hair you should also consider those shampoos and products you are using. Be on the look out for those that contain alcohol as well as any other chemicals, which will ultimately dry that hair out.

Why Tourmaline? The Real Deal on Hair Straighteners with Tourmaline.

October 16, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Technology is always advancing in all areas, and the same is true for the hair care industry. It seems like every day there is a new advancement made when it comes to styling your hair. One of the latest breakthroughs is with hair straighteners that utilize the power of tourmaline.

The first question that most of you will ask is, What is tourmaline? Well, tourmaline is a naturally occurring mineral that can be found in nature. It is a crystal silicate mineral that has been compounded with other minerals such as aluminum, potassium, iron, magnesium, sodium or lithium in order to create tourmaline. In its natural state, it is quite a striking looking gemstone.

So why is tourmaline suddenly being used in hair straighteners? That’s simple. Tourmaline is the only natural mineral that has been found that is such a strong source of negative ions. It’s also the only mineral that has been found to hold an electric charge permanently. Beyond that, there have been some studies that show that tourmaline is an effect tool against stress and strain, which will actually help to relax you.

What does that mean for my hair? This is an excellent question. When tourmaline particles are added to the plates of a hair straightener millions of negative ions are created which in turn creates far-infrared heat. Far-infrared heat actually dries the hair from the inside out instead of the outside-in which means that your hair becomes styled more quickly, with less contact with the hair iron. If your hair isn’t in contact with the iron as long, that means less damage over all.

But that’s not all, tourmaline actually smoothes the hair down, sealing the cuticle of the hair. When the cuticle is sealed, your hair lies flat giving it a shiny healthy appearance. No more, dry frizzy hair when you use a flat iron with tourmaline. Tourmaline actually improves the texture of your hair. What other flat iron can do that?

Many people believe that flat irons can be damaging to your hair and that you should only use them once in awhile. But with a tourmaline hair straightener, you are free to use your hair styling tools every day and not have to worry about causing any damage to your hair while you’re styling. Most tourmaline hair irons also utilize ceramic plates which means you get the added benefit of having a super smooth plate surface.

The ceramic plates coupled with the power of tourmaline give you hair the healthy shine and beautiful straight look all without any damage to your hair. And because tourmaline heats up so quickly, you can achieve these styles in a fraction of the time of regular straighteners, which means less time getting ready every day and less chance that your hair will be damaged by styling heat.

The benefits of hair straighteners with tourmaline are clear. They are absolutely the most effective and beneficial hair straighteners on the market today. You will pay a little bit more for a hair iron that uses tourmaline, but the results will speak for themselves. It’s an investment well worth the extra price. Once you use a hair straightener with tourmaline you will never go back to use anything else!

Choosing the Curling Iron that Works for You

When it comes to our hair, women all too often want what we don’t have. Lucky for us there are excellent tools available to help us achieve exactly what we crave. One of the most popular hair styling tools available is the curling iron. Curling irons are popular with women of all ages because you can achieve all types of styles and they are fairly simple to use.

A curling iron should be a staple of every woman’s hair care tool box. So when it comes to choosing a curling iron you will want to carefully consider your options and weigh the pros and cons of each one. After all, when it comes to style you want the best tool for the job and for your hair. Take a look at the following considerations when it comes to choosing an iron for you.

1) Price. Obviously the price of the curling iron is going to be a factor to consider before you purchase. And the price can range from drugstore cheapies around $10 to very high end irons which go for over $100. Remember however that price should not be the only consideration. Like with most things, you get what you pay for with a curling iron so be sure to balance the price point with the other features before you make your decision.

2) How much are you going to use the curling iron? This seems like a simple question; however it’s a very valid point. You may not want to break the bank if you’re only going to curl your hair for special occasions. Likewise, if you are professional stylist and plan on using your curling iron every day, you are going to need an iron that will stand up to repeated use and has a warranty.

3) Size does matter. What type of curl are you trying to create? Is there a particular style that you are hoping to achieve? The size of the curling iron barrel determines the tightness of the curl. If you want loose sexy waves, a bigger barrel- around 2” is probably what you are looking for. If you are trying to create ringlets or tight spiral curls, you will want a much smaller barrel – around ¾”.

Also the length of your hair will largely determine what size of curling iron barrel you choose. If you have long hair, it can handle a larger barrel size but using a 2” barrel on short hair just wouldn’t make sense. 1” barrels are probably the most common size for a curling iron, and are good for most lengths of hair.

4) Heat it up. Pay attention to the heat settings on curling irons. Some of the cheaper models will only have one setting, while others will have an adjustment. Look for a model where you can adjust the heat settings. This is important because not all hair was created equally. If you have thick or coarse hair you will likely need an iron that can be heated to a higher temperature of 180 to 200 degrees. However, if you have thin or damaged hair, a cooler temperature of 150 degrees will be all you need. An iron is useless if it burns your hair, or doesn’t get hot enough to create a curl.

5) Material madness. One of the most important features of a curling iron is what it is made of. The two most common types of curling iron materials are metal and ceramic. Metal curling irons are generally the cheaper of the three however they will often burn or damage hair if you use it every day and they may come with fewer features. A Ceramic curling iron is a better choice for protecting your hair and keeping it looking good. They are more expensive, however if you plan on using your curling iron frequently, these are definitely the curling irons to choose. They will maintain a constant even heat and will keep your hair looking smooth and healthy while styled.

With so many different things to consider, choosing a curling iron can seem like a big task. But don’t let it overwhelm you. Simply weigh all of the factors, until you determine what is most important for you and your hair.

Many women get stuck in a curl rut when it comes to styling their hair since they only own one hair curling iron. By adding a second curling iron into your hair care toolkit you can create so many more styles than with just one curling iron. Try adding a curling iron with a very small barrel, this will give you the ability to make lots of small tight curls in your hair for a totally different appearance than you usually have. This can be a much better alternative to a new look than buying a whole new wardrobe and a much more versatile one as well.

Ceramic hair straighteners are perfect for not only creating smooth luxurious hair, but they are also perfect for making gorgeous sexy waves.
