Wrap Up Those Last Minute Gifts

December 18, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

There’s only a week left to go before Christmas. Have you finished your shopping yet? In the frenzy of the holidays, it is so easy to forget one or two gifts, or think that you got something for that special someone, when really you forgot. Or maybe you’re one of those people who leaves all their shopping to the last minute. Whatever your shopping style is, if you find yourself in the situation of needing last minute Christmas gifts there is nothing better than giving the gift of style this holiday season by gifting quality hair styling tools.

There are so many choices when it comes to giving hair styling tools, and everywoman on your list will appreciate a quality hair styling tool. If you are stumped on what type of tool to buy, go with a hair straightener. A quality hair iron can be used for so much more than simply hair straightening. Yes, of course you will be able to create sexy, sleek styles, but you can also flip hair out or in, and even add glamorous curls. Yes. Curls with a hair iron.

A quality hair iron also acts like a hair treatment for hair. Instead of damaging hair, like cheaper hair straighteners, a quality iron that is made with ceramic plates and utilizes the power of tourmaline and far infrared heat will actually nourish the hair creating glossier, healthier looking hair than before. The tourmaline and far infrared heat infuses each hair, sealing in the natural oils and moisture to keep it looking healthy, while at the same time sealing the cuticle so that each hair lays flat on the head. So you can say good bye to those frizzy fly aways.

Another great choice for anyone on your gift list is a quality hair dryer. Because even if you have a hair dryer, everyone can use a high quality dryer that cuts their drying time in half and creates healthier hair. Who wouldn’t want that? Choose a hair dryer that uses ionic technology. Negative ions go deep into each hair to dry from the inside, out. This means that hair dries faster. Much faster. In fact, by using an ionic dryer, you can get your hair dry up to 60% faster. How’s that for a Christmas gift?  Not only are you giving an awesome dryer, but you’re also giving the gift of more time in the morning. I’m sure you know someone on your list that could use an extra cup of coffee in the morning instead of drying her hair.

If you are stuck on what to buy that special someone on your gift list, take a good look at quality hair tools, because everyone likes to look good and if you can look good with healthier hair in the process, well that’s just an extra. So wrap up a little style this Christmas and give everyone on your last minute shopping list something that they can really use – all year long.

Best Hair Straighteners for African American Hair

December 17, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

If you are an African American, and have the notoriously difficult to style hair that is very coarse and thick, you may think that you will never be able to have straight hair, or that the only way you can achieve this style is to go through painful and long chemical hair straightening processes. But there is another way; it is possible for you too to have the sexy, sleek straight hair that you crave. All you need to do is to choose the best hair straighteners for African American hair.

Hair straighteners have come along way since the days when of metal plates, now you can get a hair straightener that will actually improve the look of your hair and you don’t have to worry about causing any damage.

The best hair straighteners for African American hair all have one thing in common. They are top quality and they utilize some of the best features that you can find in hair irons. You need to look for an iron that has ceramic plates because the ceramic plates provide a moist heat to the hair instead of a dry damaging heat. The moist heat, and far infrared that ceramic produces infuses each hair sealing in the moisture and closing the cuticle. Because each hair is affected in the straightening process, the results you get are much better and longer lasting. You will not have to worry about your style losing it’s look halfway through the day.

Another feature that you are common in all the best hair straighteners for African American hair is the addition of tourmaline. Tourmaline is a naturally occurring element that is a source of negative ions. These negative ions are the best discovery for straight hair then anything else. When the straightener passes over the hair, the negative ions infuse each hair shaft, sealing in moisture, natural oils and sealing the cuticle. The hairs lay flat against the head and have a radiant, healthy shine that you will not get with any other straighteners. Forget about the frizzy, over processed look that some African American women get when they straighten their hair. With tourmaline, this will not be a problem for you any more. You will now have beautiful, smooth and sleek hair with no need for a load of product to keep it smooth.

African American women should look for a hair straightener that has a high heat, however it is also advisable to get an iron that has a temperature adjustment on it. Typically, the thicker and coarser the hair is, the higher heat that is needed to straighten it. However, everyone has a different make up, and it’s important to consider the differences in an individual’s hair. So you may want to experiment with different temperatures before you automatically go with the highest heat setting.

There are a wide variety of hair irons out there for African American hair, and they are all gentle enough on your hair to use every day, so you can have straight hair everyday without the fuss or expense of chemical straightening procedures that can damage your hair.

Chi vs. Karmin

December 16, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Some of the best straightening irons have long been held as the standard of quality when it comes to hair irons. But when it comes to choosing one over the other, which hair iron should you choose a Chi vs. Karmin? One of the biggest debates and frustrations is not narrowing down the hair iron from some of the cheaper, lower quality brands, but trying to decide between two high quality irons.

Let’s start with the Chi hair straightener. The Chi brand has held the status as one of the most popular hair straighteners with stylists and the general public for years. Chi has a number of different models of hair straighteners out, but its most basic iron the Original Chi Ceramic Hair Iron, is an example of the quality and simplicity that made Chi hair irons so successful. This iron utilizes the power of ceramic plates which provides an even temperature to the hair at all times, heating up quickly to begin styling right away. The ceramic plates also provide a moist heat which penetrates each hair, sealing the cuticle making your hair look shiner and healthier than it did before styling. The iron is versatile as well, making it easy to curl, flip and twist hair into a variety of styles.

One of the newest hair irons that Chi offers is the Chi Silver Nano Flat Iron. Not only does this hair straightener offer the top selling ceramic plate technology, but it also offers a very unique Nano Silver Technology that takes the long known power of silver and puts it to work on your hair eliminating a wide variety of bacteria and germs. This technology creates a healthier environment for your hair and environment while it’s doing an amazing job straightening your hair.

Taking a look now at the Karmin hair straighteners, you have another line of very high quality irons. The Karmin Titanium Hair Straightener, uses titanium plates instead of ceramic which also provide amazing straight hair, and some great benefits. The Titanium plates are as smooth as glass, but without all of the harmful properties that glass straighteners can have on your hair. Using negative ions and infrared heat, the Karmin hair irons, remove static from your hair creating a smooth, sleek look. The negative ions, penetrate every hair shaft, sealing in the natural oils and locking in color. The Karmin hair straightener, also uses a micro-porous technology that works also to lock in moisture so not only will your hair be beautiful, and straight but it will be healthier than ever before, radiating shine and glossiness.

When you are comparing the Chi vs. Karmin hair irons, you will find that both products work very well and will give you beautiful straight hair that will last all day. So if you are having a hard time deciding between those two excellent irons, it may simply come down to personal preference and you will not go wrong with either choice.

FHI Ceramic Curling Iron

The creators that brought you the best in ceramic hair straighteners have now invested their extensive knowledge and millions of research and development dollars to bring you the best in curling iron technology. The newly launched FHI Ceramic Curling Irons are sure to become top sellers and some of the most widely sought after curling irons in the industry.

When FHI Heat first started out, they simply strove to create the best flat iron that they could. They quickly achieved this goal by selling some of the top performing irons in the business. The FHI Ceramic Curling Irons are no exception. Using the same sophisticated thermal technology, these curling irons create the perfect style every time.

When you already have naturally curly hair, curling irons are perfect for defining curls and making each one pop. It’s important to be especially careful when you are dealing with this naturally curly hair because it tends to be more prone to breakage and damage than straight hair. FHI’s advanced technology is perfect for this fine, damage prone hair because it conditions each hair as you style preventing breakage or any frizzies.

FHI Heat is one of the industries leaders when it comes to utilizing ceramic, tourmaline and the newly discovered Nano-Fuzeion technologies in their hair styling products. Ceramic has long been known to be the material of choice for hair styling tools. This is because of the constant and even heat that ceramic creates. This means that there will be no hot spots on the tool, so you won’t have to worry about burning your hair. Ceramic also uses a moist heat that seals in the moisture into each hair, so you don’t get that dry, frizzy damaged look as with other tools.

Tourmaline is a naturally occurring element that is a natural source of negative ions. Negative ions are great for your hair because they allow each hair to keep its natural moisture and oils and they actually seal in moisture closing each cuticle. The hair then lies flat against the head instead of standing straight up with a dry, damaged look.

When it comes to the new Nano-Fuzeion technology, this is a unique development that actually helps to eliminate any bacteria, toxins, static and bad odors that are on the hair or on the hair tools which creates naturally healthy hair.

The FHI Curling Iron is available in a variety of sizes from ¾” to 1 ½” so no matter what type of curl you are trying to achieve, you will be able to create it using this fabulous technology. There is a swivel cord that lets you style without getting tangled up, it’s easy to handle and sports an ergonomic spring grip handle and kickstand for safety. A digital LCD display is easy to read and lets you adjust the temperature from 266 degrees F to 410 degrees F. So no matter why type of hair you have, you don’t have to worry about damaging it.

For the best in hair technology, utilize the powerful technology in the FHI Ceramic Curling Irons for perfect curls every time.

Why Tourmaline? The Real Deal on Hair Straighteners with Tourmaline.

October 16, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Technology is always advancing in all areas, and the same is true for the hair care industry. It seems like every day there is a new advancement made when it comes to styling your hair. One of the latest breakthroughs is with hair straighteners that utilize the power of tourmaline.

The first question that most of you will ask is, What is tourmaline? Well, tourmaline is a naturally occurring mineral that can be found in nature. It is a crystal silicate mineral that has been compounded with other minerals such as aluminum, potassium, iron, magnesium, sodium or lithium in order to create tourmaline. In its natural state, it is quite a striking looking gemstone.

So why is tourmaline suddenly being used in hair straighteners? That’s simple. Tourmaline is the only natural mineral that has been found that is such a strong source of negative ions. It’s also the only mineral that has been found to hold an electric charge permanently. Beyond that, there have been some studies that show that tourmaline is an effect tool against stress and strain, which will actually help to relax you.

What does that mean for my hair? This is an excellent question. When tourmaline particles are added to the plates of a hair straightener millions of negative ions are created which in turn creates far-infrared heat. Far-infrared heat actually dries the hair from the inside out instead of the outside-in which means that your hair becomes styled more quickly, with less contact with the hair iron. If your hair isn’t in contact with the iron as long, that means less damage over all.

But that’s not all, tourmaline actually smoothes the hair down, sealing the cuticle of the hair. When the cuticle is sealed, your hair lies flat giving it a shiny healthy appearance. No more, dry frizzy hair when you use a flat iron with tourmaline. Tourmaline actually improves the texture of your hair. What other flat iron can do that?

Many people believe that flat irons can be damaging to your hair and that you should only use them once in awhile. But with a tourmaline hair straightener, you are free to use your hair styling tools every day and not have to worry about causing any damage to your hair while you’re styling. Most tourmaline hair irons also utilize ceramic plates which means you get the added benefit of having a super smooth plate surface.

The ceramic plates coupled with the power of tourmaline give you hair the healthy shine and beautiful straight look all without any damage to your hair. And because tourmaline heats up so quickly, you can achieve these styles in a fraction of the time of regular straighteners, which means less time getting ready every day and less chance that your hair will be damaged by styling heat.

The benefits of hair straighteners with tourmaline are clear. They are absolutely the most effective and beneficial hair straighteners on the market today. You will pay a little bit more for a hair iron that uses tourmaline, but the results will speak for themselves. It’s an investment well worth the extra price. Once you use a hair straightener with tourmaline you will never go back to use anything else!

Avoiding Split Ends

September 10, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

No matter what your hair type or even your desired style the one thing every woman has in common and dreads the same is split ends in their hair. Split ends occur when the protective cuticle around the hair ends is damaged or removed. When women have split ends in their hair it tends to look frizzy as well as unhealthy and not clean.

There is some confusion on what exactly causes split ends and by not understanding how you get them you cannot effectively avoid them in your hair. Some of the causes are prolonged heat exposure from poor quality hair irons, extreme temperatures, chemicals, and poor haircuts with dull hair cutting tools.

Of course long ago women would burn the split ends to remove them from their hair. Though this works, this is not the recommended way to get rid of split ends from your hair. There is no hair products that will magically make split ends go away so cutting them off is your best bet to get them and encourage new healthy growth in your hair. This should be done with sharp professional hair cutting scissors so that you get the smoothest cleanest cut to begin again with fresh healthy hair.

What you Need to Know Before you buy a Hair Dryer

July 31, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

There are a lot of hair dryers to chose from, so many that in fact it can be hard to chose which one is right for you. Prices range from a few dollars to the hundreds of dollars. How can a blow dryer be so expensive?
Well they can do different things, and are also made to last longer. Some are made for traveling as well. These are usually the ones where the handle will fold in to make it easier to pack with you. A Travel Hair Dryer is a good hair styling tool to have on hand.

Traditional blow dryers have approx. 1500 microns of EMF and some of the more expensive ones ie: ceramic, ionic, tourmaline) contains only 1.5 microns. EMF stands for electric magnetic field and the higher the micron the more damage to the environment. So obviously one who is concerned with the environment would make the wise choice of the lesser micron.

These “Ionic Ceramic Hair Dryers”  state that they are made with genuine tourmaline crystals. They are known to help create the same styles and as easy as a professional hairdresser and give even drying. Tourmaline is infused into the ceramic, which when used help to eliminate frizz and improve shine. These blow dryers can run into the hundreds but if they do what they state they do, what is a one time investment for great hair?  These kind of hairdryers most likely will come with some sort of warranty, therefore it should leave the buyer worry free!

There are ionic ceramic blow dryers that come with higher wattage, this is what usually tends to make the price higher. These will dry your hair in half the time, drying  hair from inside out while at the same time reducing  frizz and static electricity and producing shine. Also known to lock in color, repel humidity and seal the cuticle.

Some come with a cool shot button which when held down will blow cool air instead of hot. There are some that come with diffusers, these are good for root lifting and also for those with curly hair. It disperses heat evenly and lighter therefore producing less frizz in final stage.

The most common mistake I find is that people seem to think that they have to blow dry then use a curling iron. In most cases this is not true. For instance, to blow dry out long layers  I suggest getting a small bristled brush, the kind where the bristles heat up during the blow dry process, and use it like a curling iron. Brush the hair forward scooping up the hair and brushing out twisting the brush in a feathered type motion. Using this method instead of  curling your hair will not only save time but instead of blow-dry then curling will cause less damage in the long run. Using too many heating products on a day to day basis will wear out your hair and you will need a few more trips to the hairdresser than if you don’t.

When choosing one, be sure to get all the information you need, because like I said there are a ton to chose from!

Hairstyles For Thin Hair

thin1.jpgthin2.jpg

I can tell you almost anything you want to know about our blog topic today. I, myself am a thin hair wearer! Yes, yes, I know, I have cried a many night. But…after becoming a hairdresser, and getting use of all professional hair products and seeing tons of styles for thin hair, I have become a Thin Hair Master! All of the photos you will see are of women who have thin hair, hard to believe isn’t it?

thin.jpg

If you use the right products, you would never be able to tell that your hair was thin or fine. One product that comes to mind in the be wary of, is Infusium. If you can help it do not use this if you want to help your thin hair. For those of you who have used Infusium (leave in conditioning treatment) did you notice that once you started, you had to keep using it? This product actually dries your hair out, making you think that you need to use more . It is just a way to get you to continue to buy and use the product. Shampoo for thinning hair is not so hard to find, I do not recommend buying from the drug stores and nowadays you can get decently priced products from Salons.

sunsilk_anti-flat-hairapy.JPG

I have found one exception though, Sunsilk. This shampoo for thin hair did not weigh my hair down and I could use it over and over again. I like to switch back and forth, and when I do I use Naturelle Hemp hydrating shampoo.

naturelle-cba.jpg

It balances moisture levels, increases elasticity and smooths the cuticle. For best results, only shampoo the roots and let the water run down the rest when rinsing. Conditioning the hair is not always a good idea for help in making thinning hair appear thicker, it leaves hair with static and brings on flyaways.

If you do need to use it use a small amount, massage around the ends of your hair, not your scalp and quickly rinse out. I use Paul Mitchell Moisture, the only conditioner I have ever used that actually doesn’t weigh my hair down. It gives you a daily dose of soy proteins and shea butter to help strengthen and moisturize and protects against sun damage.

new_moistu-charger.jpg

Haircuts for thinning hair are not so cut and dried…no pun intended! I have been told “oh you can’t have layers, they’ll just flop on your head,” or “if you get a perm you’ll look like a poodle”. This is just simply not true. I have had many different thin hair styles, layers, bob, all one length. It simply depends on what product and what process you used. Gosh, I even had a mohawk a LONG LONG time ago. The one thing I was afraid of using was a hair straightener. Well, truthfully after using the Karmin Hair Straightener, my worries are no longer…It doesn’t tug on your hair as you slide down with the straightener, you feel nothing. I just make sure before I use it I blow dry my hair upside down using a root lifter and blow dry on the medium setting. Try to wait until your hair is almost dry before blow drying, this will result in less damage. Damage will result if you blow dry on a continuous basis while your hair is soaking wet. One more product that is the creme de la creme of hair therapy is Biosilks Silk Therapy Serum .

silk.jpg

The absolute best product for fine thin hair EVER. Use it on wet or dry, you can even use it on your skin. It tames flyaways and adds extraordinary shine. This product is amazing and I would not go without.

You see, thin hair is not a curse, you just need the right products along with the right tools to accomplish the “thick” look. And yes, it can be done!

Hair Straightening – How to Keep Curly, Thick & Coarse Hair Straight

April 4, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

For those with curly, thick and/or coarse hair, straightening your hair is one thing, keeping it straight is another. By following a few professional hair style tips you can help manage curls and get straightness that lasts much longer.

1. Use a relaxing shampoo & conditioner.

2. Rinse hair with cool water to seal the hairs cuticle and fight frizz which is common with curly hair.

3. Choose a heat protectant styling aid that also works to relax the hair such as a straightening balm or relaxing cream.

4. Dry hair straight using a blow dryer with a concentrator nozzle, a paddle brush and do 2″ sections at a time, starting with the bottom layer of hair and working your way up to the top layers of hair.

5. Make sure hair is completely dry by going over your hair with your dryer on the cool air setting. If hair feels cold or damp to the touch then it is not completely dry. For the best results you want your hair to be completely dry.

6. Section hair into layers from bottom to top and starting with the bottom use a professional hair straightener to straighten 1-2″ sections at a time. Go slow and on the highest heat setting recommended for your hair type. Repeat until entire head of hair is straight.Touch up any sections that are not completely straight.

7. Once hair is straight, finish the style with a anti frizz shine serum, finishing spray or hair spray.
