Why Do We Care About Hair?

August 2, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Why do we care so much about our hair? I mean it’s just hair, right, so what’s the big deal? Why can’t we just wake up and walk out the door? Instead we have to worry about straightening our hair or making sure it looks presentable for the world. I’m just as guilty as anyone out there but I still think it’s odd that we worry so much about our appearances here in America. In Europe people hardly shower so we could probably quit caring so much, right?

Wrong. Hygiene is something that is so important no matter who you are or where you’re from. Not just washing your hair daily but making sure that you get a proper haircut at the proper time and keep it nice and trimmed. We don’t only use shampoo and hair scissors in America to improve our appearance; we do it to keep a healthy feel to our hair too. Why is this so important, you might ask.

In America people care a lot more about appearance and/or first impressions than people do in other countries. That’s the reason most people take care of themselves better here but what they don’t realize is that we can keep ourselves healthier and feeling better too by keeping up with our healthy look. There are a couple reasons as to how this is true is. One is because when we have a healthy trim for our hair every six to eight weeks, it gets rid of all split ends and problem areas that can become a pain to deal with down the road. This means that instead of standing and trying over and over to get your hair to cooperate in the morning, you could make it easy to style and a lot less strenuous on yourself.

Another reason it is important to maintain good hygiene is to prevent sickness. If you shower every day, you will keep all the bad/dirty skin cells away from your immune system. It may seem weird that a shower can keep you from getting sick but it’s true-keeping skin and hair clear of dirt and grime will keep a higher tolerance from cold and flu viruses.

It’s good to know that you can keep yourself healthy just by washing your hair daily. And who doesn’t want to save a few minutes in the morning instead of waste an hour on just their hair? These helpful tips will make each day of hairstyling a little bit better.

Even Lefty’s Can Cut

As a hairdresser, there are more things you’d need to worry about than you think. One of those things is your comfort as you are performing a haircut. For those who are left-handed, it may be a little difficult to perform haircuts but it is not impossible. With the special shear from Kamisori hair scissors, it isn’t hard at all to cut and be comfortable at the same time.

It’s not always fun having to do things left-handed because not all resources and tools are made for people who use their left hand. For example, bowling may be hard sometimes or baseball or even tennis. The world-famous brand of shears, Kamisori has made it that much easier, however, to perform a haircut. There are many different styles of these shears but they all perform one universal task.

One of the styles is called “Smoke” and it was designed originally for a hairdresser who is right-handed. The design on this particular shear is very narrow-nosed so that hair can be cut with a very sleek and easy cut. Most of the shears designed by this brand are similar to the narrow design of these shears but each pair have their own unique characteristics whether it be the performance or the appearance. After popular demand of this shear, Kamisori designed the “Smoke” for left-handers as well.

One of the most unique styles in left hand design is the “Cobra.” Also inspired by the right hand design, this shear is mainly for lightweight care and balance. The blades have holes cut in them to decrease the weight so hairstyles are easier to create. With these holes, balance is increased so that a more even cut is achieved for women with all hair lengths and styles.

When you think of haircutting obstacles, you may not think of being left-handed as a problem. It can be difficult to get a pair of hair scissors that will perform the same as a right-handed pair and still provide you with comfortability. All pairs of hair scissors designed by Kamisori are designed with a warranty that will ensure that you can cut every last strand of hair with comfort in mind.

Changing Your Hairstyle With A Ceramic Flat Iron

April 1, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

It does not take long for many women to grow tired of their current hairstyle and want to get a new look. Of course cutting their hair may not always be an option since they are trying to grow it out for a special occasion or just do not want shorter hair. Dying and perms are other options to get new looks but these harsh chemicals are hard on the hair and scalp and do not always come out looking like you want them to.

One way to get a new look without cutting or using chemicals is to use a hair straightening iron to give yourself the runway smooth locks that many models have. Ceramic flat irons can remove curl and frizz to give you a completely different appearance and daily look. Yet they are not hard on the hair and can be used one day for the look and not used another to keep things mixed up. To add even more looks to your repertoire with this simple hair styling tool you can also use it to add waves and even place curl in all or part of the hair. All of this, to change your hairstyle in a way that can bring new life to your look, but can be changed again at any time when you want.

Ensuring That Your Hair Brush Is Not Worn Out

January 29, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

There are so many type of hair brush available that choosing one can sometimes be hard. Then once you have one you like the tendency to hang on to it as long as you can kicks in which can actually end up causing you to damage your hair with a worn out brush.

A hair brush, just like a toothbrush is actually good for only so much time before you should consider replacing it with another. The optimal lifetime of a brush will vary based on many factors including; material it is made from, hair type being used on, as well as the use of the brush. A good rule of thumb is to get a new brush at the very least every year. One thing you can check is the ends of the bristles to see how worn they are. If you rub the hair brush on your arm if the bristles feel scratchy then this is a good indicator it is time for a change. Scratchy bristles mean they are pulling on your hair causing broken follicles, which result in split ends. This will give your hair the appearance of a frizzy out of control look no matter how often you brush your hair.

Having Your Own In Home Barber Shop

January 21, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

The traditional barber shop is quickly becoming a thing of the past for many reasons. Of course the biggest reason is there are not too many men who are opening up shop to cut the hair of men. Most stylists want to work with women’s hair since there is more money involved with the more labor intensive styles that women want. One other reason is men do not want to go to a beauty salon to get a quick haircut so many are resorting to cutting their own at home.

For whatever the reason for a lack of barber shops many families and men are saving money by purchasing hair clippers and just doing it at home. If you have never used a pair of electric clippers they are very easy to use and getting a good looking cut really does not take any experience at all. Many come with several sizes of blade guard which you can use to get a varying length of cut to fit your preferred appearance. If you have a father and couple of sons by cutting your own hair at home you can save the family hundreds of dollars a year and never have to make an appointment that may not fit into your busy schedule well.

Hair Straighteners That Don’t Damage Hair

December 12, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

If you haven’t used a hair straightener in a while, you probably have not been so lucky as to experience a quality hair straightener that will actually improve the look of your hair. Too many women who tried hair straighteners years ago were turned off by the way that they made their hair look, and have not tried them since. But you don’t need to worry. There are hair straighteners that don’t damage hair. You can have beautifully straight and sexy hair without all of the damage.

When you look for hair straighteners that don’t damage hair, you need to look for an iron that uses ceramic or titanium plates instead of glass or metal plates like some irons. The glass or metal is often painted which can chip off and tear at the hair, pulling or snagging. These cheaper hair irons will also often burn the hair because the glass and metal do not heat up evenly and can create hot spots that will burn or singe the hair as you straighten.

Ceramic and titanium plates are smooth and provide a constant heat that will not burn your hair. Ceramic actually provides a moist heat that will help your hair retain its natural moisture keeping it looking healthy. Ceramic plates are known for maintaining a constant heat, so you don’t have to worry about your hair iron heating up to an extremely high temperature that will burn your hair.

Another feature for hair straighteners that will not damage your hair is too look for an iron with tourmaline in it. Tourmaline is a natural element that generates negative ions. The negative ions infuse each individual hair and seal in the natural oils and moisture so that your hair will not dry out or get that frizzy, damaged appearance. The negative ions actually cause your hair cuticles to lay down flat on your hair so your hair looks even sleeker then it normally would. In fact, a hair straightener that contains tourmaline will actually improve the look of your hair and it is safe enough to use every day without fear of damaging your hair.

One of the newest features for hair straighteners is the addition of silver technology. Silver has long been known to be a natural antibacterial agent and now you can find it added to hair straighteners. With the addition of silver technology, the hair iron will actually kill any bacteria and germs that are on your hair, which will keep your hair looking its best and healthier than ever before.

If you are worried about a hair iron hurting your hair, stop worrying. There are so many high quality hair straighteners that don’t damage hair on the market today that there is nothing to be scared of. You can now have beautifully straight hair that has never looked healthier, shiner and smoother before, all from a hair straightener. If it’s been awhile since you have given a hair straightener a try, don’t be scared, you will be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Do They Make the Cut? The Case for Quality Shears

October 7, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Most people go to a hair salon to get their hair cut or styled. But there are a few that like to do it themselves, or maybe just do the occasional bang trim or split end clean up without the hassle of a trip to the salon. If you even occasionally cut your own hair, trim your bangs or maybe take the scissors to your child’s hair – you should really invest in a pair of good quality hair scissors.

But my kitchen scissors do the job just fine. Why should I buy scissors just to cut hair?

The easy answer to this question is – why shouldn’t you? What do you use your kitchen scissors for? If you’re like most people, you probably use them for cutting wrapping paper, opening plastic bags and packages, and maybe even cutting plants. Do you really think that those will be the sharpest, best scissors for the job of hair cutting? No.

When it comes to your hair, you deserve to treat it right. After all, your hair and your appearance is one of the first things that people notice about you and if you present yourself to the world with shaggy, damaged hair that looks like it’s just been chopped with a pair of kitchen shears, what does that say about you?

Quality hair shears sport extremely sharp blades that give you precise, clean cut that won’t leave your hair looking damaged. Just using a pair of poor quality scissors once can give you split ends, tear your hair and give you an uneven cut, so even if you plan on only occasionally cutting your hair, you should invest in a pair of hair scissors so you no longer need to share with the kitchen drawer.

So what should you look for when it comes to quality scissors? Well, obviously price is an indication of a good pair of scissors, but it doesn’t have to be the only factor. If you only need hair shears for occasional use, you don’t need to break the bank. What you should look for is a sharp set of blades. An accurate cut depends on perfectly sharp blades. Generally for occasional trims, you won’t need any fancy blades such as beveled or convex blades; straight blades should be just fine.

You will want a comfortable handle and grip. This is especially important if you’re a lefty. There are specific hair shears designed for left handed people, so be sure that you find a pair that works for you. You aren’t doing yourself any favors if you cannot properly hold the tool. Thumb grips are largely a personal choice; many are removable and can be changed out.

Quality hair shears range in price anywhere from $60 to over $500, but you don’t have to go all out with your first pair. Starting with student shears is a great way to get a feel for what you need in a pair of scissors for a less expensive price. Also, if you are only using them occasionally – you likely don’t need the top of the line. However, remember not to sacrifice quality, even for occasional use. A quality pair of scissors will give you an even, precise cut without damaging your hair. Also, they will be comfortable and extremely durable. Quality is important, because your hair is worth more than the same pair of dirty scissors that you keep in your junk drawer!

Ensuring You Get A Straight Cut From Your Scissors

For the hairstylist quality scissors is the basis for a successful haircut and a happy client. If your scissors are not doing the job properly than it does not matter how good of a stylist you are the look will turn out well at all. If your scissors are bending or pushing the hair during the cutting motion this will affect the outcome on the appearance of the cut. These problems are associated with scissors, which do not have enough tension in them. Avoid these problems by using only the highest quality, well-maintained hairdresser scissors available.

Nano Silver Technology For Clean Hair

September 7, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Many women do not consider the fact that they wash their hair and then they take hair styling tools which may be less than clean to style their hair only putting dirt and grim back into their locks. Luckily many new professional hair dryers and other styling tools are utilizing nano silver technology in their designs to stop this from occurring any longer. Dirt makes your hair appear less healthy and by using this new nano silver technology you will be killing the bacteria on your styling tools for a better-looking hairstyle and appearance.
