Holiday Hair – Hairstyles for 2009-2010

November 16, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

This season, holiday hair is sleek, chic and elegant. Hairstyles such as the loose chignon, soft waves and the classic pony are hot trends for 2009 holiday hair.

This year, the chignon goes from the classic to a more modern version that is loose and somewhat messy looking. To create this look, blow dry hair and create a deep side part. Secure hair into a low pony tail. Taking sections of hair, wrap them around the base of the ponytail, securing with bobby pins. To create the more modern messy chignon, leave ends of your hair out.

The classic pony is a sweet and sophisticated hairstyle and can easily be vamped up for the holiday season with a rhinestone hair clip, gold or silver bobby pins or other hair accessories. The 2009 holiday ponytail is sleek, shiny and smooth looking but not flat. Use a flat iron to create super straight, shiny strands before securing hair into a ponytail that sits in the middle of your head. Brush hair straight back or create a part anywhere you like. Cover your hair elastic by wrapping a section of hair around it and securing with a bobby pin. Lightly spray hair with a hairspray to tame flyaways.

To create soft waves, apply a texture enhancing styling cream and blow dry hair. Taking sections 1-2 inches, wrap them around the barrel of your curling, hold for a few seconds and then let go. Once you have done all of your hair apply a shine serum for soft, glossy waves.

2009 VMA Hairstyles – Celebrity Hairstyles

If you caught the 2009 VMA’s you may have noticed that the popular hairstyle trends this year were spiral curls, loose waves, half up do’s and retro inspired hairstyles. All of these are hot Hairstyles for Fall 2009 and can easily be taken from red carpet to everyday.

Taylor Swift’s Hairstyle is a simple updo that is perfect for a day look or a night out. Get the soft face framing curls by using a 1″ curling iron and using a flexible hold hairspray to keep them in place.

To get a sleek pony tail like Kristin Cavallari, part hair off center and straighten using a flat iron for a sleek, smooth look. Secure hair using an elastic just above the nape of your neck. Take a section of hair from the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic and secure with a bobby pin underneath the pony tail to hide the elastic band.

Celebs like Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and Madonna opted for the partial updo with the font sections of their hair pulled away from their faces. To get this 2009 VMA hairstyle, simply take the front section of your hair, either a small section like Katy Perry or a larger section like Madonna (pictured below) and pull back from face. Secure section of hair with bobby pins, but don’t pull it back too tight, notice they have some volume, and keep in place with hairspray. For Madonna’s hairstyle, you may want to tease the section of hair a little underneath to create more volume.
