These brushes are round and are for used for finishing meaning straightening and shaping. These brushes are also great for adding volume. A professional Barrel Brush will offer great control, faster drying and styling as well as be sure to look for a Barrel Brush made with 100% Boar Bristle-First Cut as this part of the boar bristle provides shine and and smooths hair by closing the hairs cuticle.

These brushes are available in different sizes for different lengths of hair. They are great for all hair types.

2. Ceramic Styler

When it comes to taking care of your hair many of us do not realize that for truly healthy hair we need to work from the inside out. Proper nutrition, vitamins, minerals and overall good health are essential to healthy hair growth.

When starting a new vitamin or mineral regimen it normally takes about 2-3 months to see results so patience is key. ALWAYS talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any kind of new supplement so you can be prescribed the correct dosage.

vitamins.jpg

Vitamins for Healthy Hair Include;

Vitamin A – Antioxidant, produces healthy sebum in the scalp. Found in foods such as milk, cheese, broccoli, eggs, carrots, peaches and apricots.

Vitamin C - Antioxidant, maintains healthy hair and skin. Found in foods such as tomatoes, pineapple, citrus fruits, kiwi, strawberries and dark green vegtables.

Vitamin E – Antioxidant, boosts scalp circulation. Found in foods such as raw seeds and nuts, leafy green vegetables, soybeans and dried beans.

Minerals for Healthy Hair Include;

Iron – Prevents hair loss. Found in foods such as fish, chicken, eggs, dried fruit, green vegetables and whole grains.

Silica – Strengthens hair and prevents hair loss. Found in foods such as green vegetables, soybeans and rice.

Calcium – Promotes healthy hair growth. Found in foods such as dairy, tofu, nuts and fish.

The above lists are not all of the vitamins and minerals which help promote healthy hair growth. Be sure to check out vitamins and minerals for healthy hair for more information and dosage recommendations.

Besides nutrition and supplements there are simple things you can do to help maintain healthy, beautiful hair.

  1. Avoid using heated styling tools everyday and be sure to use a heat protectant styling aid when you do to protect hair from heat damage.
  2. Use professional hair styling tools as they are designed to cause less damage on your hair.
  3. Do not brush your hair when it is wet, use a pick or wide tooth comb.
  4. Get a trim every 6-8 weeks
  5. Use hair care products recommended for your hair type.
  6. Avoid sleeping in hair accessories.
  7. Avoid styling products which contain alcohol (found in many hair gels) to avoid drying hair out.
  8. Use hair elastics that are designed not to pull and snag hair and avoid wearing them too tightly.
  9. Be kind to your hair! Give it a break from styling, coloring, perming and let it rest every now and then.

A triple barrel curling iron can be a wonderful and easy way to add beautiful waves to your hair. Here are some simple steps to follow to ensure you get the best results.

wavy-hair-1.jpg

1. Taking sections about 2-3 inches wide, place the section of hair between the top barrels and bottom plates. Be sure to stay about 1 inch away from the scalp.

2. Clamp the Iron shut and hold for about 5 seconds.

3. Move the waver down and to avoid ‘dents’ in the hair be sure to place the first barrel in the last so the waves look continuous.

4. Move down to complete the section of hair and to finish the edges tuck the ends of hair into the barrel with a tail comb.

5. Repeat steps 1-4 but when working on the crown (top pieces) turn the iron up on a slight angle to avoid getting any harsh lines around the crown of your head.

6. When you have finished your entire head you can break up the waves gently with your fingers for a softer looking wave. Spray with a small amount of flexible hold hairspray and your done!

Professional Blow Dryers and the Benefits of Using Them

March 6, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

blow-drying-hair.jpg

You may think a hair dryer is just a hair dryer, however this is just not true! There are many benefits to using a professional hair dryer!

A professional blow dryer may cost you a little more than a regular hair dryer, however the difference in results are well worth the extra cash! Professional dryers come with many different features which will provide different results yet the main goal is a faster drying time and healthier, shinier, frizz free hair.

Some of the choices in Professional Hair Dryer Features may include;

  • Ionic hair dryers – Negative Ions work to eliminate frizz, dry hair faster and smooth hair.
  • Tourmaline hair dryers – creating more negative ions and FIR heat, Tourmaline works to cause less damage and help maintain shiny, healthy hair.
  • Ceramic hair dryers – ceramic distributes even heat, helps control frizz, reduce static and seal the hairs cuticle.

Even better, is that their are hair dryers that have all of these features in one dryer. Just as when choosing a hair straightener, you want to look for the best features and one hair tool that features as many as possible so you are getting the best hair styling tools possible!

You Ask – What is an Infrared Hair Iron?

March 3, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

healthy-hair.gif

Infrared Heat is produced when ceramic and tourmaline are used together in a hair straightener.

An Infrared Straightener has many benefits as this type of heating heats the hair from the inside out causing much less damage to the surface of the hair. Heat is distributed much more evenly and works to produce faster results meaning your hair is straightened much quicker with a flat iron that uses Infrared Heat than one which does not.

So, you get quicker results and less damage using an infrared flat iron.
